just checked out my rear

on my 2wd 72. Couldn't see any tag attached but did see a GM60 stamped onto the front of the the diff. Then I checked my 4x4 and it said GM56 on the rear diff and couldn't see anything on the front diff. What rear ends do I have?

hehehe, sorry, I'm no help, I just thought I'd see if my mental pic of you looking over your shoulder at a mirror checkin' out your rear was correct. Guess not. My wife says mine looks good, but I suspect she's lying.

Could the GM60 mean its a Dana 60 rear-end? I don't know, that's a very wild guess

You will need to pull the numbers located on the axle tube passenger side (on top) to know for sure. At least that is where the 12 bolt numbers are located.

You can tell if it is a 60 or a 12-bolt by the shape of the cover pretty easy.

The 60 and 70 look the same (you would have a 60 though).

I think you should leave checking out your rear end to profesional MD's....you never know what kind of diseases you could get.....

lol

If you just need to know the gear ratio, there is a way to get that info...and whethor or not it's posi.......

E-mail me if you need to know how to do this (I'm pressed for time or I would post it...)
