Hard to find and desireable parts
What parts would you consider hard to find and desireable? Ie, parts that shouldn't be passed up when browsing through the junk yards? This could be small year range only parts, or rare factory/aftermarket options.
For example, i was going through a junkyard the other day and saw this 90 suburban with what looks like aftermarket mirrors, overhead and center console, and high back seats, but am not sure if any other that would be worth grabbing to help out fellow members.

Re: Hard to find and desireable parts
Tailgate bands for sure - no longer available AFIK and like $350+ when you could get them. But IMHO, I would rather spend the $$ on good quality mechanical/electrical repair parts. Any good used sheet metal, especially the doghouse and doors, but bed parts are good also. Instrument panel and all of the switches/gauges, etc. The bezels and dash are usually shot, but good ones should be worth some $$. The spare tire carrier and fixins are good to get if not rusted (still available in the aftermarket, but somewhat pricey.)

Re: Hard to find and desireable parts
Don't pass up a chance to buy those used rubber gloves on the floorboard. The mystery behind what those gloves were used for is worth the $$$.
There's a gent on ebay who makes over $300k/yr from selling junkyard finds such as emblems, hubcaps, grills, bezels, steering wheels, air cleaners... As you can imagine, he has very little overhead. |

What about non-sholder belts?

Re: Hard to find and desireable parts
I know a lot of people think that the 89-91 power mirrors are rare but I see tons of them all the time. I have two sets of them at the shop now.
I think the rarest option I have seen is the combo dome/cargo light f.monroe posted. Mainly beacuse of all the things posted on this site this is one I have never seen in person. Well that and a one ton with vacuum brakes but thats not nearly as exotic as the combo light. Kills me to think how many of these I have over looked becasue I never knew they existed. http://www.67-72chevytrucks.com/vboa...d.php?t=431707

Re: Hard to find and desireable parts
I am not telling, don't want them to become even harder to find.

Re: Hard to find and desireable parts
I always look for tach clusters, factory bucket seats, intact dash pads, and 73/74 grilles and emblems. Tailgate bands too.

Re: Hard to find and desireable parts
I would think that the heater boxes would be one of those items that are in demand and maybe the evap boxes as well. They are fiberglass and tend to take some abuse thru the years.

If you ever find solid (non-ugly square hole rallies) wheels in the 5x5 pattern, in 15 x 8, holla at a brotha.
