Battery Drain
I need some help..............I had a continued battery drain that I can not track down ever since I gutted the inside of the truck for painting. The battery goes stone dead after 3 days. I have replaced the starter, alternator, voltage regulator, battery. The horn mysteriously quit working around the same time of the 72 being painted, thus my thoughts are it is within the horn within the column. Thoughts, tips, advice would all be much appreciated!

Re: Battery Drain
hook a test light between the battery - post and the cable, and pull one fuse at a time..
or if you think it's the horn unplug the horn relay with test light between the -post and cable. light goes out, you found your drain |

Re: Battery Drain
I find drains by taking the negative cable off and tapping the negative post, if it arcs then there is a drain. Then I just start removing fuses and tapping after each one. When it dissappears that is the line its on.

Re: Battery Drain
I thought I had unplugged the horn relay and the battery still seemed to drain. Can someone tell me exactly where the horn relay is and what it looks like??
Thanks! |

Re: Battery Drain
On my '72, the rectangular horn relay is mounted to the left of the steering column, above and to the right of the fuse block. It has a 3-prong connector.

Re: Battery Drain
I had the same issue..... draining the battery.... turned out the horn relay..... if the wire on the steering wheel is grounded so simulate the horn going off, the relay would get hot and draw all the time from batery...
