Distributor hold-down bracket?
Should it be installed curved up or curved down? Does this look right?

Re: Distributor hold-down bracket?
Your question confuses me. The top part curves up and the bottom part curves down.
But yes, I do believe you have it installed corectly. Just add you bolt and your golden! Keith |

Re: Distributor hold-down bracket?
Curve up so that the bolt and hold down put even pressure on the dist flange and the manifold boss. So it does not have to be super tight to hold the dist from rotating and change the timing.

Re: Distributor hold-down bracket?
picture 2 looks to be correct, it should be arched if you were to look at it from a side view and the bolt would try to flatten out the arch as it is tightened down.

to me it looks like pic 2 is correct with the rust on the under side of the bolt head .

Re: Distributor hold-down bracket?
To be clear the curve or crown should be up.

Re: Distributor hold-down bracket?

Re: Distributor hold-down bracket?
the convex or 'bumps' should be down. they are the contact points with the manifold and distributer. that is how the engineers controll the location of the pressure points, even with casting variations and tolerance stacking...
each leg of the distributor 'fork' often has a crown or radius facing the same way (down) as the bump on the manifold leg of the clamp. this puts down pressure on two points 180* from each other on the dist collar. picture #2 is the right way Last edited by Monty; 07-24-2011 at 08:43 AM. |
