fuel cell???

so ive gotta replace the gas tank on my 84 k10 short bed, had a idea, having a 16 gallon tank on something that is my dd and not good on fuel freaking sucks!!!!!!! ive gotta fill up every 3 days or so, depending how much crap i gotta do, so is what my idea was was to get a new tank, then get a 10-20 gallon fuel cell and putting it under my tool box since its pretty much wasted space anyhow, then running a line through my bed down to my gas tank and gravity feeding gas to my tank. ive seen threads on putting bigger tanks on towards the rear of the frame, but i wanna put a hitch on it very soon....or i would put it in the rear. input?

Re: fuel cell???

Probably be better off doing a dual tank set-up. It should come out to about the same cost maybe a little more. I don't think that gravity feeding your main tank will work that well. Shouldn't be too hard to do the dual tank since they came from the factory that way.

Re: fuel cell???

ya true, but id have to do a bed change(which i plan on doing someday), but i think it would be a little cheaper to do the fuel cell because i wouldnt need a sending unit, brackets, straps etc, still debating...maybe someone has tried this before or heard of it

Re: fuel cell???

I've thought about this too, but since the exhaust runs right where you're planning on putting the tank, you'd have to divert it or dump it early.

Re: fuel cell???

...put a 25 gal blazer/suburban gas tank in the rear...alot safer and prob as cheap as a fuel cell.

Re: fuel cell???

Wouldn't yu want the sump of your cell to the rear? I would think under hard acceleration you will starve the fuel pump.

Re: fuel cell???

my plan is to put the cell under my tool box which is right above the fuel tank, running a line from my fuel cell to my gas tank, as my gas runs out of my gas tank it will drain from the fuel cell, which hopefully in turn i dont have to fill up as much...

i would really like to put the tank in the rear, but thats going to be later, this is only a temp fix, once i pull my bed off its never going back on..well that bed anyways
