Need ideas for egg-crate grille upgrade.
The grille on my '71 needs help, age is showing. It's in good shape, just dull. Just curious as to what some of you might have done to sharpen them up a little. Any particular paint that works best or looks good? I want to stay with silver or chrome look if possible, don't like the grilles painted to match the truck. I realize I just need to spray the thing, but wonder if anyone has added anything extra to improve the looks of the egg-crate. Appreciate any info, thanks, LB.

This is not a visible improvement but one I am planning to do to mine. The area where the hood release is located seems to be broken on most trucks I see. I plan to insert some wire mesh and fill with epoxy resin the area behind this point. It is hollow originally and I feel it will help it last to beef it up a bit. Then I will paint mine black.

Larry,
I painted mine semi gloss black, I used lacquar paint. I bought this stuff called no sand, it liquid. ( get it at home depo or Lowes ) I washed it, wiped it down with no sand, then primed it with a clear primer for plactis, then sprayed it with the paint. It cam out looking really good! Sam

Thanks guys! Blue_71, that looks good, I kinda like that idea. I'm wanting to get a Trenz grille one of these days, but gotta get by for the time being. Mine is not broken, just dull looking. Hey Sam, you're gonna have to post some pics of that truck since you've been doing all this work on it here lately.

just another lil tip: i havent done it yet, but if you want "real" chrome, c10racer told me you could get chrome "tape" and autozone that might be the right width to stick on there... less taping off, its not as easy as you would think once you start taping the vertical bars!

use 1/4" masking tape on the horizontals before you paint. then add the chrome tape. This way if the chrome tape peels, at least you will have silver and not black underneath.
