Anyone shipped a truck internationally?

I have someone in England interested in buying a vehicle from me and was wondering if anyone could give me some tips, suggestions, or any information regarding shipping overseas.

Any info would be most appreciated.

When I sold my 70 GTX to a guy in Sweden, he did all the paperwork and planning on his end. A truck driver showed up at my house to pick up the car and take it to Los Angeles where it was shipped out. Same with a Cougar Eliminator I sold to a guy in Canada, he did it all on his end. I just watched as the driver put it on his truck. The signed titles were in the glove box of both cars. Kinda spooky, but that's how it was done.

I have never done it myself but if I was the buyer I would do the legwork myself. That way if there are any mis-haps, there is no one to blame but myself.

Yes it's really quite straight forward, I bought my truck from a dealership in Illinois they used there own shipper so I had nothing much to do this end except pay for it and wait. It should be different in your instance though as your not a dealership or anything so it will be up to the guy here in the U.K to arrange all the shipping, there are a good number of shippers here that specialize in classic car shipping from the U.S, Montana Exports was the name of my shipper if that's of any use. Even if you did arrange shipping it's just a matter of finding one near you they'll give you a price then you add it to the cost of the truck and let him know, once he forwards the funds your off,PM me if you need any help mate or have the guy over here contact me if that helps also....good luck.

There's a board member in Germany (sorry, don't remember his handle) who had a post sometime in the last six months or so about buying his truck in the US, packing in a container and shipping to Germany.

There's also a guy in Dubai. Think he purchased a truck that used to belong to some hillbilly singer in the US.

Gonna take some digging, but they may be able to offer some advice.

When I sold my 67 C-10 to a Guy in Sweden, I had him wire me an immidiate $1000.00 (Non Refundable) to my Paypal account to hold the Truck, and then 2 days later, he wired me the rest. A Tow Truck (Flatbed) was at my House 5 days later to take it to Los Angeles and stuffed into a Cargo Container, with everyone elses God Forsacen CRAP, thrown on top, Into the Bed and inside the cab.
I asked for pictures when it got there. When I saw them, I was almost in tears!

You'd normally expect the buyer to arrange the shipping etc at his cost, I have friends that have imported cars from the USA and most of them arranged their own shipping, there are companies here that will do all of it for you even arranging to have it the neccesary modifications to lights etc to make it legal here and have it tested and registered so all you do is turn up at the docks and drive it away. Obviously as you're east coast that makes it a lot easier and cheaper rather than west coast. They'll also need to arrange shipping to the docks at your end.

Don't worry, most of us are decent enough people, we'll amke sure it goes to a good home!

As mentioned, the buyer normally is the one that arrange the shipping. I´m sure the buyer would appreciate your help to get the vehicle to the shipping company though, you might have better knowledge about the local vehicle transporters.
It is very essential for the buyer to that you let the overseas shipping company have the signed original title, then they do the paperwork with DMV and send the title to the buyer. W/O the original title the vehicle will be almost impossible to registrer in the new country.
I have imported two vehicles from US to Sweden, in both cases I was there my self to do the payment and arrange the shipping.

As has already been stated let the buyer arrange the shipping but make sure your money is certified in your bank before you let the vehicle out of your possession. There have been some scams with shipping stuff.

Yeah Greg...like the time my brother-in-law put his '90 Harley on eBay. He had a hit almost immediately that offered his full price plus shipping. Seemed all my BIL had to do was start the process by shipping it to Singapore. The buyer was going to use a credit card to handle it all. Only one problem: BIL was not knowledgeable of the amount of credit card number theft and all of the scams, in SE Asia, and not thinking about the whole process. He ended up swapping his scooter for a truck...locally.

Ive sold 5 overseas in last 2 years-buyer makes deposit-get a wire transfer-make sure the wire has cleared-U can then release the truck--buyer arranges the shipping--I have had some gone as quick as a week--sometimes a month-they use l.a.,houston,jacksonville fla.ports-

To be honest I have less hassle on overseas buyers than locals..........jim

Hi Guys I've imported 2 trucks in the last 12 months both from the States , as it's been said it the buyers responsibility to arrange shipping , it's not that big a deal , the first time I used a shipper here in AUS the second one I arranged for a shipper in LA to handle the transport for me Sea and Road freight , it's actually cheaper dealing direct with US shippers ....
