question about removing a arm shaft nuts

Sorry if this is a simple question but this is my first time with a front suspension rebuild. What is the best way to remove the A arm shaft nuts (the ones at the ends)? The lowers look like they need over a 1 1/2" wench or socket to remove them and I don't have anything quite that big.

Is there tool from one of the auto parts store for loan that can be used for this? Or do I need to find a wrench or socket that big?

The A arms are from my 70 C10 and they have been removed from the truck.

Thanks in advance.

Dan

Re: question about removing a arm shaft nuts

You will have to buy a socket to fit it. Im not sure weather 1/2 in drive goes to that size. If not you will need a 3/4 drive socket & a reducer to use it on 1/2 in. drivers.

You don't have to buy that large of a socket.

A pipe wrench (in most house-hold toolboxes) will do the job. You might look around for a 'cheater' pipe to slip over the end of your wrench as sometimes they're a little stubborn.

Building a small, high rpm engine with the perfect bore, stroke and rod ratio is very impressive.

big wrenches and sockets are good things to have to complete a tool set// my 1/2drive sockets go up thru 21/2 inches

f you plan on reusing the caps then I would invest in a socket for them, so that they do not get all galled up as you are removing them. Mine were on pretty tight from all the years of grease and dirt that had built up in the joint.

A couple trips around the edge w/quality masking tape prevents most galling. Worst case scenario needs a little bit of work w/a flat file when you're done.
