Exclamation Clock spring replacemnt ??

1999 Silverado 1500, 4x4, ex cab.......
Air bag light is on. Have not done any diagnostic check, but I am thinking my clock spring is broke. The steering wheel made this funny "moan" while turning for a long time. It has stopped. But now airbag light is on. googled and came up with clock spring as possible problem. So........have any of you replaced or repaired these, and what are your thoughts on it.....thanks in advance!!

Smile Re: Clock spring replacemnt ??

I heard of some '99 and newer Chevy trucks with steering column problems. In some cases the dealer replaced the whole column (to save time) under warranty back then. It sounded like a rub inside the column and was hard to isolate. Trying to replace the clock spring inside the column could be difficult. These trucks are starting to make their way into the salvage yards now, maybe you could find a decent one cheap and swap it out.

Does the horn work? If the horn works, The clock spring is most likely OK.
Clock springs are not hard to install, But they are easy to damage....If you need the correct procedure Let me know.

Have the SRS/airbag module scanned for codes.

Re: Clock spring replacemnt ??

Not to say a regal is a silverado but I had the airbag lite on my regal come on and found that the connector for the air bag was under the seat, I reseated the connector and it has been good for a few years now.
