Trailer Hitch- Class 3
Does anyone have any information about installing a class 3 trailer hitch on a 57 step side. I have searched this forum and I could not find out any info on this subject. Thanks in advance.

Re: Trailer Hitch- Class 3
I never did find anyone who made a hitch for these trucks. Everyone usually adapts something that was made for other trucks.
I made my own out of 2" square tube and then bolted it onto the frame. It attaches behind my license plate and sticks out just past the bumper. I can attach some pictures of it later today. Let me know if you want me to.

Re: Trailer Hitch- Class 3
Some pics would be helpful. I guess I am going to have to do the same and make my own. I really thought that I would get more responses about this.
Thanks again

Re: Trailer Hitch- Class 3
Here is my 59 Fleetside but same concept. I got one at a yard sale for $3. It was made to bolt to the bottom of the frame, I had to modify it for side mount because of the gas tank mount. The piece that takes the receiver is welded to the bottom of the crosstube so everything is tucked up behind the bumper, nice and clean. These photos were during the mock up, I made the side plates larger for the final. If you want some pretty photos of the finished product LMK.

Re: Trailer Hitch- Class 3
I'd think that there should be a hitch for a later model truck (maybe not a GM) that would come pretty close to bolting on. Otherwise I would find one that was too wide and bring in the brackets to fit the frame or possibly make new end brackets.
Around here there always seems to be a couple of Class 3 or 4 hitches on Craigslist for a low price or they can be found in yard sales for low bucks some times. |
