Looked At A Longhorn Today

-
I went and looked at this '69 Longhorn this morning. Has the usual Iowa rust but it's not a bad truck. I think the bed has been re-done at some point, It's nice. SPID is gone but it has a 396, TH400, A/C, headliner, tach dash, exterior cab light & slider.

Looks like something you can make into a nice truck .as you always do. Hey ,,does it have the tail gate to go with it?
I know the first year for the 402 was in 1970 but could some been put in the 69's ?? you probably already looked at the numbers and know..just curious ..

can we guess the price Leon? LOL $2000

It looks like it's in pretty good condition - did you take a picture of the interior ? Did it have an original blue cloth seat by any chance ?

No tailgate Larry. I'm not a numbers guru but I think the '69 had the actual 396 in them. Someone correct me if I'm wrong. Fender badges say 8-396. Owner has had it on craigslist for a long time, someone told him that it was pretty rare so his original price was pretty high. He asked me what I thought it was really worth and I told him $2000-$2500 and that may be a little high for this economy. Owner was a nice guy and we had a nice visit.

The seat was missing when the owner purchased it at an auction sale. so he put the seat out of a '71 Chevy truck in it. I forgot to add in my original post that it also has a tach dash. I will add that to my post above.

factory headliner... CST truck. It would be a later 69 since it has the cargo light. Looks like a pretty decent rig.

Good question ... I have never heard of a 69 with a factory 402 BB ...but who knows

I thought all the 396's were actually 402's? Is this info not correct? My understanding was that all were listed as 396, but were in fact 402 ci engines from 69 to 72, then they went to listing them as 402's.

Either way, its a cool survivor, you could do worse than that. Buy it!

Probably not. I have my eye on another pretty nice original survivor truck if I can get the guy to come down a little on it. I am going down to talk to him in the next couple of days. We are $1000 apart on it and so far neither one of us is budging...

The guy that has this Longhorn also has a '71 3/4T with a 402BB. He said the cab and front clip are really nice on it but the box, TH400, & rear axle have been removed from it.

A 69 should have a true 396 in it. The 402 did not even exist til 1970. Even CARS that were 1970 and later had 402's even thought they called them 396's.

That's not right. I had a 1971 Camaro SS396 6 years ago. I removed the ORIGINAL Numbers Matching engine, measured it, rebuilt it, and sold the car. It was a 396, not a 402. Ask me how it was a 396 still and I couldn't tell you other than it wasn't bored .030 farther.

Could be. This is the first time I have every seen or heard of one though. Every car I have every seen or every piece of literature I have ever read states that in 1970 every chevy vehicle (chevelle impala camaro TRUCK...)have 402's and not 396"s. I know a 1970 Chevelle is badged 396, but if you ask any enthusiast he will tell you it is actually a 402. From the info I have read on the camaro's it seem the same, but maybe not.

Yeah, I should have kept the car. I purchased it for $600. Rebuilt the engine, installed rockers, quarters and floors. Sold it for $4k. Now I can't find a 70-73 for under $4k that isn't junk. I want to kick my self in the nads.
