Proportioning valve, where to buy?

My bro in law thinks my brake problem lies with a faulty proportioning valve, so where in the heck can I get a new one? I have searched all the major parts stores and all they carry are aftermarket ones? Mine is a stock valve from a 1971 w/power brakes.

They have a stock appearing Prop. valve.

I just need to rule everything else out before I try a new prop. valve, I have installed a new master cylinder, all new brake lines front to back, new brake pads, bled lines repeatedly, have went through 3 large brake fluid bottles. I have a firm pedal and the truck will stop, but I cannot make the brakes lock up even on grass or gravel? Any ideas?

What about the rubber one in the back that tees off to both of the rear brakes? Did you change that one? I've had one of those clog before.

Yep, I have replaced all the lines on the truck including that one with brand new lines. I had better brakes on this truck before I rebuilt it when I only had front brakes. I did some more looking and i'm thinking the booster may have a leak now, I can pull the vacuum hose while it's running and the engine sounds the same, but if I block off the hose the engine rpm's drop. I'm going to change the booster next and go from there.

I was going to suggest the booster first but you said the pedal was firm so i didn't say anything. Sounds like you may have a leak. I would probably go for the booster next before the prop valve. If the rubber ones weren't clogged, the prop valve probably isn't clogged. Just my $.02.

Yep, its firm. Firm to the point I have to come off the seat to make it stop.

What about the wheel cylinders in the back? Have you verified they move? I've had them freeze on me before. Just trying to throw options out there.

So I too am having trouble with my brakes in my 71 only my problem is that I have mostly back brakes. If I try a quick stop the backs instantly lock up the nose doesn't even drop a little. Very tough to drive in the rain, I was thinking it was the prop. valve . Any help would be great.

Yeah, I jacked the back up and spun them while a friend hit the brakes. They are working. I even manually adjusted them until they were grabbing then backed them off just until the wheel would spin. I'm at a loss guys, I replaced the valve that goes to the brake booster and it seemed to help but it still seems like the power in my power brakes is lacking. I've got alot of vacuum when I cover the hose with my finger, i'm pretty sure my booster is shot. I'm going to find another booster that I know to be working and try it.
