Re: What are these parts?

No clue. But they almost look as if they are supposed to redirect air flow towards the exhaust. Make no sense to me.

I saw some on a truck in a salvage yard recently. It was the first time I had seen any.

Re: What are these parts?

I dont think their heat shields. Their not really big enough and wouldnt be shielding anything other than the fender well. They've got some mounting holes for something as well.

Those were on my 72 also... I never knew their purpose.
I pulled them off just because they looked out of place.

Re: What are these parts?

I also have these on my 72 Custom Camper, looks like a mount for something but doesn't look like anything was ever mounted on it. Would really like to know the answer to this one. Doesn't appear to be a heat shield.

Re: What are these parts?

Pretty sure they are heat shields. I think they are more for directing the air to rear of the engine when you are moving.

Re: What are these parts?

Does anyone have these on anything other than a Custom Camper?
Curious as to why heat shields/air deflectors would have holes in the top....

I think I just answered my own question....universal mounting!

Re: What are these parts?

They are heat shields as stated, they were often removed because they are a pain to work around and I believe they were a 72 thing on sb trucks, never seen them on a bb truck.

Re: What are these parts?

Heat shields. They are on my 72. It protects the positive battery cable going to the starter on the passenger side. Not sure what it's protecting on the drivers side though, unless it's just there because it's on the other side.

You don't think there is any air movement because the hood is closed? Look at the configuration of them.

Re: What are these parts?

I was told in the past they are for directing air to cool the exhaust manifolds to help keep them from cracking. I had a set on my BB truck.
