Engine dolly pics

Somebody wanted to see some pics of my engine dolly I had built. I have 4 of them, all with small blocks. Haven't tried a bigblock on it, but I would use thicker steel. It is 2" square tube, 14ga with 1/8" x 1 1/2" angle iron. The ends of the tubing is filled with plastic post caps. I got them at a close-out at Home Depot. 4 for 1c. I bought like 50c worth!

67cst, thats what you call the junkyard special eh? At least the engine looks comfy in its nice tire pillow, better than having bolts driven into to you.

Mike

That's a different stand but looks good.

67cst

maybe if you put the wheels back in those tires they would roll around.

Glad I could help. I built the work bench in my clean room just so you could store extra engines underneath it. Actually could use a few more! www.northerntools.com has a really nice steel wheel caster rated at 1000#, $3.49 for rigid and $3.99 for swivel. 4 swivels would make it easier to store under the bench, but the two rigid make it a LOT easier to steer across the shop...

The motor is a 96 Camaro SS LT1 with CNC heads ported heads and a crane cam. That is the GM Performance parts carbed LT1 intake. I'll get the car running with the carb, then convert to FI when I can afford to do either Commander 950 or DFI Gen VII. The shorty headers are only for show. They don't clear the angle plugs. I have another LT1, and iron headed straight plug motor that will get the carbed intake and shortys and put in my Datsun with a WC T5.

Cool stand do you have any rough dimensions on it. I need to build one as my project is about to get put on hold for a while.

I'll get some rough measurements for you. The uprights and the braces are bolted to tabs welded to the base frame. This gives some "tweaking" adjustment to the whole assmebly for fitting to the back of the block.

The headers are a set of blockhuggers that I bought used. Not sure of the manufacturere, but they are 1 5/8" with 2 1/2" collector. Pretty standard stuff.

Mike,

Thanks. I'm looking for a set of short-pipe headers that I can use with a planned Holley TBI system. They say in their literature that long-pipe headers wouldn't let the o2 sensor get hot enough.

Do you anticipate a problem with changing plugs?

Plugs should be easy enough on these shorty's. Check out Patriot shorty's. I think they are owned by Proform, but they have round or D ports, they use cone/flange instead of gaskets at the collectors and they have straight or angle plug. If you are in the 350hp or so range (net) then the 1 5/8 2 1/2" collector should be fine. Just mount the 02 bung in the collector just past the header.
