Factory Big Block Question

I had a question about the exhaust hangers for factory big block trucks. I have a 1969 factory short bed, 1/2 ton, big block truck, a 1970 factory long bed, 1/2 ton, big block truck, and two 1972 factory big block 3/4 ton suburbans. All of the trucks seem to be fairly original and complete. Both of the suburbans have the obvious big block hangers on them, but the two trucks dont seem to have the hangers (at the very least they dont have the large hangers on the rear section of the frame). Did the big block exhaust hangers come on all years of factory big block trucks? Were they the exact same for all years or were they different? Thanks for any input!

Re: Factory Big Block Question

I didn't really pay attention to if they were dual or single exhausts. I just noticed that the trucks didn't have the exhaust hangers on the frame (at least the large ones in the rear).

Re: Factory Big Block Question

Interesting thread. As mentioned, the leaf and coil rear hangers are different...other than that I'm not sure...

Re: Factory Big Block Question

As for as I know all BB were dual exhaust (it was not offered as an option on BB). As mentioned ealier different hangers on leaf and coil.
Hope that helps Paul

Re: Factory Big Block Question

the big hangers were a 72 thing, the early 71 trucks had the twisted strap type things that GM used on the early years

Harold, do you also think all BB were dual exhaust? I guess I am thinking 71-72. Not positive on 68-70.

Re: Factory Big Block Question

Not positive on the 68 trucks- never seen one as bb originally around here so cant speak from experience, but the last 69 that was on the place was a factory dual exhaust truck. I would bet that dewayne's 1970 cst truck still has the hangers still in place if he will post some frame pictures, which will help at least for that year. My truck has the larger hangers in the rear like a 72, but it was a late 71 so I am no help in that respect.

Re: Factory Big Block Question

Thanks for all the help so far everyone! At least I know why the trucks dont have the large rear hangers, and why the suburbans do. It was a 1972 thing. I will try to get pics of the hangers that are on the trucks this weekend.
