I am restoring my factory tilt and need the correct black paint color. Gloss, semi-gloss? Code?
Thanks

Re: Factory tilt column paint color?

Found an old thread where Special-K says Matte black. Mine is an original and appears to have some gloss to it. I posted pics, maybe that will get some attention.....the painter is staring at me

Re: Factory tilt column paint color?

$3 can of Krylon #1613 from Wal*Mart matches the black under the hood pretty darn good. I bet it is the same for a black steering column.

Re: Factory tilt column paint color?

It should be about the same color as the frame and the stuff under the hood. I think a semi-gloss would be the best or a semi-flat or a satin for a little less shine.

Thats why I love this stuff! Back in the day anything could and did happen. I hope someone is keeping track of all this info for future truckies.

That is not original. Speedwarning did not come in any truck from the factory after 68. That is a 69-up woodgrain dash. The adjuster knob is also in the wrong spot. Just sayin...

Re: Factory tilt column paint color?

Scott, I agree, but I think speedwarning was still available atleast partially in 69'. I have a speedwarning gauge head that I believe is dated 70' if I remember right. I know someone else might chime in. I definitely agree that the 43,000 truck has been restored/touched up. Trevor

Re: Factory tilt column paint color?

Tilt columns were black. Speed warnings were avalable in 69. I believe the woodgrain cluster was 71-72.

I recall reading here a debate over whether or not speedwarning was offered in 69 or not. Looks like it has been answered now I thought woodgrain cluster was 71-72, but wasn't sure...doesn't 69-70 have exterior lower woodgrain trim as an option, or just black?

Sorry for the hijack OP.

Re: Factory tilt column paint color?

Most I have seen and what I have read says a satin black color for a tilt column. My factory tilt in my 67K mile truck was a satin black.

Re: Factory tilt column paint color?

Then for sure you should pick up a can or two of Krylon #1613.
