Completely fed up!!!
So if you have seen all of my threads about being fed up, well this time its for real. I am done. I will be listing the 66 for sale.
Heres the problem as it sits. I have had problems with the transmission. I had it rebuilt about 4 years ago by a friend. B&M rebuild kit and shift kit, 2100 stall torque converter. I recently put the tranny in. Replaced front and rear seals, and pan gasket. First, the pan gasket leaks, replaced it, still leaks. Saw today that the pan needs to be replaced. No biggie. However, this morning, with a tiny bit of fluid, shifted to reverse, drove across a small lot, shifted into drive, drove into a bay. We then pulled the pan, drained all the rest of the fluid, cleaned the pan, (this is when we found out the pan is screwed. We threw a hail mary, and cleaned the pan and the trans surface thoroughly, new gasket, permatexed, installed, let it dry, then filled with new fluid. Now the truck wont move in any gear forward or reverse. The shifter linkage works fine, I checked to make sure. We let it warm up to , normal temp, still nothing. checked fluid on level ground, nuetral, park, full of fluid. Still NO movement. I have a baby on the way, a single income family of 3 plus one on the way. I am tired of throwing money in this bucket. I dont have a clue what to do, and no money to replace the trans. SO....it is for sale. MODS: please dont delete this, I will be posting this for sale if someone doesnt come up with a miracle. sincerely; DONE!!!!

Re: Completely fed up!!!
I think in your other thread somone suggested for you to park it, leave it alone for a few weeks. my other sugestion is for you to contact Clienbarger, he is in Texas but he could give you some options as far as the tranny. I have been in your shoes before, only without one on the way, everything else though. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

Re: Completely fed up!!!
We all have made our mistakes, I bought a 700R4 off Craig’s list had another person on Craig’s list rebuild it put it in and no forward gears, turns out the star gear was left out after I took it to a known tyranny person here in Gresham Oregon fixed it and now it works fine, we have all paid our dues along the way, but I agree park it take a deep breath and come back to it when money allows in the long run you’ll hate yourself for getting rid of your truck

Re: Completely fed up!!!
feel your frustration badblu, sorry to hear of the new problems. the unexplainable ones are the WORST! if you need the money, then probably correctly at the point to sell it. not to pee on the blanket though, it will be difficult to sell if it won't drive... so, rather than buying a new trans, it just might be worth sitting on it til you can save the $ to have it towed to a trans shop and say "make it GO and not leak..."
After you sink that into it, you can probably sell it for more than the difference you'd get for it if it wouldn't move, if that makes sense. in other ords, you could maybe hope for a zero sum game with the trans cost IF you are in fact going to sell it - in other words, get it moveable/fix the trans and sell it then - might even come out ahead, but it'll take some $ up front, unfortunately. Unless you have someone lined up that wants it as is, might be the best option. The ironic part is that you probably wouldn't sell it if the trans worked!! Ugh. But understand do not have the $$$ layhing around to fix the trans and then keep the truck I guess. I agree with Clyde, if there is any way to sit on it for a while, an obvious fix may surface - have you listed this issue on the Drivetrain forum as well? Re: Completely fed up!!!
it's costing nothing to sit, (unless you in one of those type of cities) Try not to do anything out of anger or while you angry. you usually regret it. God bless.

Re: Completely fed up!!!
Got 4 kids here too and sing. income (and out of work at the moment) as well. I've been in your shoes. If you can afford to let it sit, then do it. If you need the scratch right now, then sell. You can always find another one and this great group of people will still be here when you do find another. One thing that all my kids have taught me is to be patient. If you can walk away until you're less frustrated, to me that's always the best. Heck now I even seem to figure out most of the problems that I have with the truck (and other issues) when I'm not even in the thick of trying to figure them out. Whatever you decide, best of luck and congrats on the addition.

Re: Completely fed up!!!
Yep, step back and cool down. Try and reset your perspective.
I really don't think the laws of physics have switched up on you and are playing you for a fool. Ironically, the same laws that will not let it work in it's current state are the same ones that will make it run perfectly when you figure out what's wrong. Have patience. Somebody missed something. Conquer the problem with a cool head, and you'll be a better man. Now excuse me while I go yell and throw things at some inanimate project of my own. Last edited by oem4me; 08-08-2011 at 12:56 AM. |

Re: Completely fed up!!!
sell it.
if it's a 700r4, they are very, very picky about how they like to be tuned. -W |

Re: Completely fed up!!!
I had the same problem once and it was a supper simple fix. The filter for the trans was no seated properly and it was allowing air to get by and would not let the vehicle move in any direction. It could just be the filter...
Sometimes it just the simple things, check it out.... |

Re: Completely fed up!!!
Dang man, I wish you weren't on the other side of the states from me. I have rebuilt a few (sarcastic for many) transmissions, and considering your case I would be happy to pull it apart and look into it for you. Shipping cost from here to there alone would be more than buying a usable one from a wrecking yard though. Sorry bud. I agree with the others, sit on it for as long as you can. Unless you are in one of those places that hassles you about parked vehicles it doesn't cost anything. Plus you won't go through the regret of selling it once the frustration has passed. I've been there bud, and I know how it feels. I have always regreted the projects I kicked out when frustrated, and am glad I stepped back from the ones I kept.
