TH400 shifter
Been thinking of replacing my Hurst pro-matic. Looked at the Lokar shifter products a couple times but saw an add for the American shifter company in the Oct 2011 classic trucks magazine. Any body have any experience with American shifter or use/installed them.....got any pictures? Thanks.

Re: TH400 shifter
There has been talk about American Shifter on the HAMB board. Basically China crap and ripped off designs from Lokar and Gennie. Haven't heard a single good thing about them. YMMV
Stick with Lokar.

Re: TH400 shifter
I have an American Shifter on another project vehicle. It works fine.
Yes, it's a knock-off of a Lokar. But, I understood the cheaper price meant a cheaper product. The main thing I was disapointed with was the lack of instructions. There were basically 3 or 4 pictures with little or no text explaining how to get there. Overall construction wasn't much different than the Lokar I have in another vehicle. I do not like the 1/4 all thread for shift rod on either one. If you are not prepared to do a little modification, you probably won't like them. Alot of times we buy things like these, mainly as parts, for something we want to build. I see this many times in these forum, people buy the cheaper parts, then complain about the quality. I am happy with the one we installed, with no other alteration than a little trimming of one bracket, and we'll probably buy another one. Sidenote- Amazon.com has the best prices on them! |
