A little help please...

Hey guys,

I just bought a 1972 SWB yesterday, and it has a freshly rebuilt 1996 Vortec 5.0 crate engine, with a brand new crate 4L60E in it. It has the original wiring harness, and ecm. Here is the problem.... I don't know much about the wiring of the newer vehicles, and this could pose a problem for me. Do you know of a good wiring harness to match up to the existing one?? Because I would like to run the fuel injection and electronic tranny, but if it's going to cost $1500 for a harness, or take an expert to install it, I will just put an intake, carb, and a 700R4 in it. Can I please get some suggestions and or comments?? Thanks guys.

Re: A little help please...

There are quite a few companies making retrofit harnesses. If I uderstand you the engine is in but inoperable because the truck has the original 1972 harness but the late model fuel injected engine and 4L60e in it.If this is the case then contact some vendors for pricing on a plug and play harness.

www.keepitcleanwiring.com is listed in Classic Trucks mag.as is

www.easywiring.com and there's always

www.painless.com

Re: A little help please...

Hey, thanks so much for the fast response. I love this board!! It, does not have the factory wiring in it. It had a frame off (basically all thats been done), and I guess they trashed the wiring then. But, it does have the complete harness for the vortec engine and tranny. I am looking for the kit, to hook up to that. I looked at painless, but they don't have a kit for the vortec 5.0, only the vortec 4.3. But, I will check out the other sites you just listed. Thanks again bud.

Re: A little help please...

Another question for you guys.... Can I run the stock harness from the 96' vortec 5.0 in my 72', and if so, after that, all I have to do is get the ECM remapped/flashed, right? Thanks.
