Recommend a modern radio for a '71 uncut dash?
I have an uncut dash in my '71 Blazer, and i am looking to replace the junk aftermarket radio that the PO put in. Can anybody recommend one that is a direct fit and has a USB connection for MP3 (preferably in the rear) and remote control? I would like to work it out without cutting the dash.
Thanks |

no, that one doesn't have USB stick capabilities, or a remote either. And it sure is expensive.

Thank you brother, I just ordered that one. It is exactly what I was looking for. You saved me the hassle of slicing up the steel dash. You the mf man today...

Re: Recommend a modern radio for a '71 uncut dash?
Thanks again to stich626 for referring me to this product. I finally got it installed, and it was a bit of a hassle. I was too lazy to disconnect the cables and wires on the climate control head, so i just lowered it and pushed it back as best as i could. it was a pain trying to squeeze the radio past it, but i finally made it happen. I was cussing too much to take photos, but here is the finished installation. It looks low-key, so i dont think anyone will be looking to climb in and rip it out of the dash, especially since it has old fashioned knobs, and we know that aint cool to younger kids.
The fit is great, and the looks blend in pretty well, not like some hack job with a face plate after cutting the dash. The sound is OK, but it is clearly not the Kenwood i am used to in my other car. As long as it is clear when playing loud with no top, I am happy. |

Re: Recommend a modern radio for a '71 uncut dash?
so far, so good. the sound is good for a made in china, no-name radio. it goes loud enough for me, and has pre-amps for an amp if you wanted one. the radio is exactly what i was looking for, feature-wise. it has the USB input for MP3 files on flashdrive, and a wireless remote, that is RF instead of infrared so it works in direct sunlight. So far, i would recommend it to anyone looking for something to put in without cutting the dash.

so far everything is good. no problems, and the RF remote is nice to not have to aim it at the radio to work. it would be better with an amp, but would be plenty loud for most anybody. MP3 USB flash drive option is great. just mount in the glove box and forget it. |

Re: Recommend a modern radio for a '71 uncut dash?
Thanks for the info. I just ordered the radio from retro sound and the kick plate speakers and supports from vintage radio. Cross my fingers and I will let you know how it goes.
