If I remember... G80 was the factory posi for the 14 bolt... aka the Gov Bomb because they tend to detonate and destroy themselves when wheeled hard... If you do a serious amount of wheeling look into ARB for an air locker... or and aftermarket posi for medium wheeling and daily driving needs....

Re: Posi's & 14 Bolts. Such a thing? Pro's and Cons?

The 14b full floater had couple different "G80s". The later govbomb and the early Eaton posi. The early one was a true posi, but are hard to find, used 73-77-ish.

The G80 in the 14ff isn't nearly as bad as the other axles. They don't go boom like the other ones do. But once they lock they lock. Detroit is the best option, will drop in an open carrier.

Randy's also has spools for 14 bolts and may have posi units; Will report back later or maybe not depending on time managment as this rear axle really interests me.

The 14 Bolt full floater is one of the best axles ever available from GM. Don't confuse the FF with the SF or the smaller 9.5" 14 bolt. I agree with Big Dan... huck a locker in it.

I would go with a yukon locker but detroit is basically 100% proven, the cons is some people don't like how they lock up on the street in a corner and i think the noise of detroit's

Re: Posi's & 14 Bolts. Such a thing? Pro's and Cons?

A Detroit Locker is a proven unit for use in offroad and will hold up to a good amount of abuse. Yes the Detroits can be a bit aggressive on the street, but I would guess to say that if you need a Detroit for what you are doing, you probably won't mind the street manners. An ARB would certainly be nice, but they are $$$. The next step up from a Detroit would be a mini spool or a full spool.
