Transmission swap help.
I have posted many times about wanting to convert my 94 from manual to automatic transmission. Well I was able to get my automatic column so far. What other items will I need to do this. I am ready to buy the transmission but want to get all the other items first. Any help would be appreciated.
Linkage from column to tranny Tranmission cooling lines Drive line. Cross member with rubber mount. I think I can use same cross member rom manual but slide back and replace mount for 700R4. Dipstick TV cable. Transmission place said they can wire internally for the torque convertor lockup. No wiring needed. Is there a sensor for automatic tranny that you have to step on brake before starting vehicle? Last edited by rchavez101; 08-13-2011 at 07:23 PM. |

Re: Transmission swap help.
I am not the expert for sure, but I think you might need a computer from the automatic truck, or have yours redone since they control much of the actions.
Other things to check on is you may need a drive shaft (not sure if the manual & automatic are same length). The front yoke may also need to be changed. Not sure about the rest. Good luck with it.

Re: Transmission swap help.
I forgot i will need a flywheel. As far as computer i will not need a computer for the 700r4. it is the last transmission that was made befor the computer controlled ones.

Re: Transmission swap help.
If your interested and I did it in my 82 it was a 4-speed and I out in a turbo 400. I went and bought a ratchet shifter since the hole is already in the floor, it eliminated all the linkage hassle and was probably close to the same amount of $$$.

Re: Transmission swap help.
I thought of that but I have already got the column and I am wanting to keep the stock look inside as far as shifter. I tried to find pics of trucks with the floor shifter but couldnt find any that were 88-98.

Re: Transmission swap help.
You can get a torque convertor lock up kit from summit or jegs.It controls lock up without a computer.I did it a while back but can't remember what all I bought to do it with.Google it and you will probably find other kits.
