Darn...
Well at least you don't have that WONDERFUL 700R4!!
All that plastic inside...... Nevermind
If I remember right, 1st and reverse go out together in a 350.
Sounds like your line pressure is too high.
Could be a clogged-up modulater.
Is the filter clogged?
It's not slipping at all?

I dont think its slipping that seems fine i havent tried to see about to much pressure. as for the filter i havent changed it yet. Im going to do the filter and fluid today and how do i check the modulator to see if its no good.or just plugged. I pulled the tube no metal flakes on it or bad smelling fluid. maybe somethings plugged (crosses fingers and hopes)lol

I was just looking through a shop manual on your problem...
One thing you need to check is the Vacuum Modulator.
If the diaphragm in that thing goes it can cause hard shifts.
You get a pipe cleaner or something and pull the vacuum hose off it and stick it in as far as you can. When you pull it out it should not have any trans fluid on it. If it does then get another.
If the fluid has not been changed in awhile, I would recommend a high quality fluid 'cause they typically have good cleaners in them and your trans may just need that. I use Mobil 1 synthetic but that stuff is high.
Here is a pic out of the manual of the modulator,

ah, yet another misinformed opinion running down the 700R4/4L60... there wasnt any more plastic inside the 700R4s i've been inside than any TH350 or TH400 i've ever seen. you just have to make sure that the clutch clearances are good and the TV cable is properly adjusted, and the 700R4 should be just fine behind a mild small block.

I guess I shouldn't have put it like that....
I know there is no plastic in one but maybe that would be stronger than the stamped and thin cast stuff in there.
I put $1150 in one of those pieces of s**t.
A stock 305 blew it up!!! My lawn mower has more torque than that!!
I took it apart and could not believe the cheap crap in there.
They are good(?) trannies if you put $700 worth of upgrades in there.
You should not have to do that.
I have put 400 ftlbs of torque through a stock+shift kit Turbo 350 and the car is still going 15 years later.I also have a Auto box called a "Slim Jim" in my '62 Starfire. That car has it's original tranny and it puts out 440ftlbs. It too is still going 40 years later.

Try that kinda torque with a stock 700R4 for even 6 months and you will break a record (and a tranny).

Misinformed....My wallet doesn't think so.
