Question about adapters

i have a really good oppurtunity on scoring a set of chrome 22's with damn near new tires for super cheap (about a third the price of a brand new set). the problem is, they came off of an 06 altima, which is 5 lug but a different pattern. these rims are 22x8.5..would it be a safe bet to run the right size adapters to make them fit my 67 suburban? or even maybe get them re drilled to fit my lug pattern..?

ill snap a pic of the rim tomorrow...any input greatly appreciated.

Re: Question about adapters

really depends on the back spacing... if there's enough room to fit an adapter before the wheel sticks out too far.

Re: Question about adapters

I'm no Nissan expert, but the Altima is front drive I believe, so adapters should work fine.

Re: Question about adapters

Sell the rims and use the money to buy rims that fit.I just don't trust adapters i seen a few that failed and its never pretty.

Re: Question about adapters

i plan on at least have it running around by the end of the year maybe...but not really finished til next year..i have a ton of stuff to finish!

maybe i could have them redrilled instead?...

i believe the rim pattern is 5x114.3 and mine should be 5x5, which is 5x127. im no hurry what so ever to get rims by any means..i already have painted stocks with pretty good tires ready to roll. i just figured this is a good chance to jump on a very cheap set of rims with great tires. they best part..i can even pay these in payments, however long i want. lol

so its very tempting to get these. i dont mind running either adapters or redrilling them, as long as its safe. the other concern was that they are 8.5" wide, which i usually see our trucks are 9.5" wide on the bigger rims. so if i spent all that money having them redrilled, and if they tuck way too much, then i should have went with adapters..

Re: Question about adapters

How old are they now? Tires have a life-span so even if they're a great deal & sit for a year or more, you'll possibly have to buy new ones because dry-rot will be starting in. If they're in constant use, the aging is different.

Since you already have wheels/tires, I suggest keeping what you have & use the wheel/tire money you're considering spending for other items needed 'now' to keep moving forward toward completion.

Re: Question about adapters

heres a quick pic i snapped just now..im not sure if i did the measuring right, but i put a piece of string under the tire and wrapped it to the top of the tire and measured from the mounting area to the string and its 6.5". brand is morpheus wheels, but i couldnt really find anything on them, he bought these brand new earlier this year..tires still have the nipples on them.

Re: Question about adapters

Cons:
1) Tires are "a little too small & not to your liking".
2)You'll need adapters just to mount them.
3)They already have a year of aging plus another year before you prob start putting 'real' use on them.
4)Those wouldn't be my 1st choice in wheel design (to be honest, I wouldn't run them even if the guy was paying me).

Three out those 4 cons are non-subjective....

What are the pros:
1) Good deal (only if these were the exact wheels you already wanted & the tires were the sizes you wanted).
2) More 'bling' vs. yourr current 15" old school steel wheels.

What are your other pros?

ok....

PROS:
1. i like the rims, believe they would go with the stance and look of my truck perect.
2. good tires (even if i dont use them, i could sell and get what i need)
3. rims have very few blemishes
4. price of rims are right in my ballpark
5. payment option available

CONS:
1. not my lug pattern
2. not my tire size
3. may not be able to use until the end of the year

not sure if it matters, but they are stored in my shed, which has a slab floor

at 500 bucks and pay when i want its hard to pass up. add the adapters and im up to 630. thats pretty hard to beat. if i had to fork it all over now then i would def. be passing as i really would like to get my truck running and get teh body work done.

Re: Question about adapters

lol...

but my intention of thread was to get an opinion on adapters or re drilling....

this truck will not be daily driven so it wont get the normal wear a daily driver does, but if adapters or redrilling is not safe then i really dont want to deal with it.

and does anyone have an idea if the backspacing will work? when i was looking up wheel adapters, they came in 1.25" thick..

Re: Question about adapters

Billet adapters work fine. Stay away from cast alum 'spacers'.
Billet adapters range in thickness from 1" to ~4".

To mount those specific wheels, re-drilling limits you to using them (or that pattern) until you spend the $$ to change it again. Adapters can be removed in minutes @ no cost.

Adapters will most likely be needed to facilitate the fwd offset. You need to know the exact offset/back-spacing of those wheels.

Re: Question about adapters

I would verify the backspace will work with adapters. I don't think re-drilling is going to be a good choice. I agree with Scoti on all counts, including the looks part.

well i like them....and think they will look pretty good on my truck. i think we have pretty much established the "looks" of the rims...

im looking in to getting adapters as long i can get them to tuck...so thats about the only thing im trying to get info on if anyone can chime in. i think you guys are right about redrilling them..i really dont want to do that.

Re: Question about adapters

Based on your measurements, it looks to me like you'll want 2" adapters, but that is dependent on how much you plan to drop your truck.

The hard part will be finding the right from/to (5x5in to 5x114mm) bolt diameters in stock. You can get them custom made but they are going to be pricey - $300 + for a set of four.

Re: Question about adapters

Those are the opposite of what you need - you need 5.5 to 4.5, and the adapters are probably (hopefully) hub-centric = meaning the big hole in the adapter centers the wheels and carries weight rather than the lug nuts doing it all.

This one

By the way, the advice you get here is is not a substitute for calling the site to make sure what you are wanting will work for you.

Re: Question about adapters

yes i know..i dont order stuff before i know what im ordering. i wanted to make sure im at least on the right path before calling, i like to have some knowledge of what im talking about before i call lol

i also seen the link you posted but wasnt sure which was the right one so i just posted one..they are the same price. the main reason why i posted here is because i cant get a part number on the wheel to verify exactly what the bs is..i dont know why i cant find anything on these wheels.

Re: Question about adapters

If the wheels are in your shed, you could just measure the backspacing yourself, couldn't you? Then you would know for sure.
