can someone identify this wheel?

I picked up a set of these 15x8 4x4 GM 6x5.5 wheels.

  • were these sport truck wheels?
  • what years were they offered etc?
  • someone rattle canned them silver, were they white from GM?
  • Did they come with trim rings?
  • are these rare at all?
  • Did GMC and Chevy both offer these?

Im going to have these blasted and powder coated soon so any information would be appreciated.

Re: can someone identify this wheel?

X2 Looks like a stock wagon wheel 4wd, seems I only remember them on stepsides and blazers with rally center caps. Seen them in 5 lug too.

They are factory becuase they have the threaded boss for the factory centercaps. I have seen 5 lug versions on sport truck models.

Re: can someone identify this wheel?

I don't thiink they are necessarily rare, but were another wheel choice from the mid 70's on. I am almost positive they were a shade of off white, and I don't remember them having trim rings.

edit- look at post 13 http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=478950

Re: can someone identify this wheel?

A lot of the aftermarket wheels had the pinstripes (usually red and blue), but the factory wheels did not.

Re: can someone identify this wheel?

My '77 Chevy stepside 2wd was ordered with these PA6 white painted spoke rims. They are 8 inches wide.
I have a '79 Big Ten Chevy Silverado 2wd 1/2 ton with the same rims on it from the factory.
I also have a 1980 GMC Sierra Classic Heavy Half 2wd 1/2 ton which is originally painted black with the gold center. The rims are the spoked rims which are painted gold to match the truck. I believe that it came from the factory like this as I have seen other trucks with the rims painted to match the truck. But I have been known to be wrong before...haha!!!!

Re: can someone identify this wheel?

I think it's great that you're planning on having them blasted and powdercoated but if you want new ones, they are about 45 bucks each from Summit for a very similar wheel, lacking only the threaded center cap holes. A powdercoating shop is going to charge you way more than that to redo those wheels.

Just an option...

I know your right, but Im considering having them powder coated to match or closely match the dark gray center of my Jimmy, plus even if I went white I want the factory center caps....decisions decisions

PM me an estimate, I always wanted to throw you some business.

heres what they would be going on

I think you have one of the "Black Gold" special editions that were sold in Alberta ...and yes the rims were gold on those

I have never heard of the "black gold" edition Alex. And yes, I bought this truck in Alta.. The outer 1/3 edge of the hood was painted gold as well. Is there any literature on this edition? Can you share anymore info, if you have some, that is? I'll have to snap a pic of it.
Thanks Alex.

Re: can someone identify this wheel?

my 83 C10 had them from the factory and it was in fact off white, looked better than the glaring white of the aftermarket wagon wheels, and also had the more rounded edges to the holes. I never had the trim rings though, they were lost long before I got it. They were 8 inches wide, and I remember the woman I got it from used to buy tires from Western Auto. They went by the book which listed a 205 tire for the stock wheel which was narrower, and didn't take into account it had wider optional wheels. Needed at least a 235, I put 255s on it. So the 205 tires were way too narrow and looked terrible and wore out every year. She kept going back and they kept replacing them with the same size over and over. What a bunch of idiots. Thats part of the reason she hated the truck and I got it cheap
