I'm trying to help a guy on Blazerworld.net who wants to make his '77 4wd a 2wd. Someone told him that early 2wd blazers had solid front axles. Is there such a thing? Were any of the 2wd trucks solid front axle?

Back in the late 50s was the last time I think. Best thing to do is find a 2wd Blazer frame or possibly cut down a swb truck frame. I'm not sure what the differences are. But if you go with a new frame you would be able to go to the trailing arm suspension.

I think that solid front axles on 2wd trucks was used for a while on heavier models when they started using IFS on lighter duty trucks. My dad's 1974 International 3/4 ton 2wd had an I-beam solid front axle.

a '77 2wd blazer did NOT come with a solid front axle. whoever told your friend that was hittin to much reefer. all he needs to do is get a 2wd frontcrossmember with suspension (control arms, springs, spindles, breaks) from any 73-87 truck and it will bolt right on.

There is a member Livrat that has done a ton of 2wd to 4wd conversions. Look him up and ask politely for directions.

I agree with Low84. Any pickup front crossmember assembly from the same generation Chevy truck should bolt right up. My '72 2wd Blazer has the same front end under it that the 2wd pickups use.
