Is there any harm in doing a slight body lift?

Hey guys,

I just picked up a '73 cab for my truck and its going to go on my truck after i do some sheet work to it.

I was thinking that when i mount the cab up i would block the body mounts up an extra inch to inch - and - a half.

I'm not really concerned about making the truck look higher, but it seems like a good idea when it comes to cleaning mud out from the undercarriage and preventing future rust.

I have heard that it could mess with my steering or shift linkage, but it seems like such a minor lift.

can anybody think of any reason why I shouldn't do this?

The main concern is you have to raise your bumpers as they are connected to the frame. center of gravity changes and steering differences. suspension lift seems more viable if it fits your needs.

I have a 1" body lift on my K5 along with urethane bushings. However the stock bushings were so worn, the new parts raised it 1 1/2". The only problem I ran into was the clutch rod had to be lengthened. The steering, radiator and fan clearance were non-issues.

Re: Is there any harm in doing a slight body lift?

All my trucks have 3in body lifts id never have a truck without one makes everything easier to get to especially cleaning mud the only problem would be sometimes the shift linkage is too short but most if not all manufacturers give you a weld on piece that takes about 30 minutes if that to install and sometimes the lower fan shroud has to be cut but on a 1in I think its fine but as for the bumper gaps I don't mind and seeing them and theI frame gap doesn't bother me either

Re: Is there any harm in doing a slight body lift?

Personally I like bodylifts, it's cheap clearance for bigger tires but doesn't mess with your frame height for towing or plowing, and only partially affects your center of gravity. It does make it easier to clean, and to work on. 1 inch is really negligible, you wont need to raise your bumpers and I doubt youll have to touch your steering or linkage either. Dont cheap out and buy hockey pucks either, use real body lift blocks. Pucks split.

Re: Is there any harm in doing a slight body lift?

cool, i think i'm going to do it.

I already have a suspension lift, I only want to do the body lift so that it will be easier to clean all of the mud from the underside of my truck!

as for the tanks i was thinking of modifying the brackets to compensate for the lift.

back bumper is NBD and i am eventually going to get a winch bumper for the front
