Brake line gravel guard

I've been searching the old threads and my eyes are getting crossed! Can't find what I need there so here goes:

I'm making all new brake lines for my wrecker resto instead of buying a pre-made kit and want it to look as original as possible. I will be installing the gravel guard (looks like a spring wrapped around the line) on the brake lines but do not have any original lines to look at.

How much of the brake line gets this gravel guard and do ALL of them use it? If I remember from other old cars I've seen, it stops a few inches from the ends near the fittings but does the rest of the line get it? In other words if you had 100 inches of brake line, would it get something like 96 inches of gravel guard?

Sorry but I don't have any pictures.
I like to put the armored brake lines on all the lines on the rear axel from the rubber hose to the wheel cylinders.
I also noticed this past weekend that the hard lines on my 72 Chevelle that go from the master cylinder down are armored - however that may have been me in the 80s replacing rusted lines. I don't exactly recall any more.

Like you call it - gravel guard - I'd put it on any hard line you're worried about taking a hit from road debris.

You can buy armored pieces from any auto parts store. I've also reused the armor off of older lines if it wasn't rusty looking.

Brake lines are easier to make without the armor on it. cut off a flared end, slide the armor off, bend the piece to fit, slide on the armor, and double flare the end you cut off. 99.9997% of the time it wasn't the exact length you needed anyways.
