Differential trouble?
O.K. Since my '70 stepper is now my DD, I've noticed something odd. Truck has a OEM 3.07 posi rear. When making a left turn from a stop, it feels like the rear is "grabbing" /(slipping?). There is some audible but light noise. Once you straighten out, it's fine. And, it doesn't seem to be as noticeable on a right turn from start. I had the local lube guy check the oil and it's full. I'm thinking I should pull the cover and check for wear, and hopefully refill and go. I want to add a fill plug. What level??? |

Re: Differential trouble?
12bolt rears came from the GMfactory with a fill plug// they did not however come with a drain plug
it is good to drain and check for wear// i like using synthetic when i do the job, most synthetics you dont need a posi additive like dino stuff needs

Re: Differential trouble?
This is common with posi rears and all you would need is a bottle of posi lube.
I'd add a bottle of posi additive and do some figure 8's to work it in. Should fix it.

Drained the rear, looked good, no metal inside. Filled with fresh gear oil plus a bottle of GM posi additive, did the figure-8 thing and all appears to be well. Even took time to strip and paint the cover. |
