Horn Button - Help

I finally found an original steering wheel to replace the Corvette wheel that was on the truck when I bought it. Now I can't figure out how to install the horn button. I ordered a horn cap retainer from LMC and can't seem to make it work. When I install it per the picture in the catalog, it make the horn button stick out too much and it won't make the horn work.
First picture is the way they say to install it. The second picture is an example of the button sticking up too much. The third picture is the parts that were in the kit minus the horn spring that was already on the steering wheel. Fourth picture is the wheel without the kit installed. I also tried to install it with the plastic retainer on the outside of the metal ring. That makes the horn button appear to sit in there correctly, but it will beep the horn at the slightest touch or vibration of the wheel. What am I missing here?
Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Horn Button - Help

I just took mine apart, this is how it was. Part 1 goes in first, has a slight arc to it, should be higher in the center and lower(towards the wheel) at the edges. Part 2 goes next. Part 3 follows, the ring that connects the 3 pieces where the screws go through, should be closer to you(away from the wheel). Mine was original but I never had the truck running so I don't know how sensitive it was. Hope that helps. Name: DSC_0010.jpg

Re: Horn Button - Help

Just looked at mine:

In your top photo, you should be able to see the orange plastic insulator, and I don't see it.

From the bottom photo: place the spring disk in first (edges on perimeter should be touching metal at the base, center raised. IE convex.

Next is the deep dish "bowl"

Then the plastic insulator.

Screws go through all this."

Horn button should have prongs protruding from the back in a circular pattern that fit snugly into the "deep dish". If not, you have an incorrect button.

Hope this helps.

LMC's illustration in the catalog is wrong.

Re: Horn Button - Help

I had already tried that arlen - in fact that is how I put it in first. Seems like the horn button is too heavy and makes the horn beep when you turn the wheel.
I will go back and try it again later today.
Thanks for the responses !
I couldn't find any reference in my service manual so I turned to the experts.

Re: Horn Button - Help

Does the flat spring work correctly. I had one that wouldn't spring back up, so I had to round up an original to make the horn work.

Re: Horn Button - Help

I think you might be on to it turp.
The first photo is installed per slikslide's recommendation.
The other is a side view.
I think that concave piece of metal maybe the problem.
I guess I need to go find one of those.
Is this one of those issues of Chinese junk?
