64-66 glove box emblem

i bought this chrome and painted it with low gloss black. then with a clean t-shirt rag and dipped in paint thinner i gently took off the paint on the edge and letters. turned out great. what do you think

Re: 64-66 glove box emblem

that's nicely done! I think it loks better painted like that rather than all chrome. I have an old original plastic silver one that matches the dash surround color - but I did the opposite as far as painting goes - everything chrome on yours is black on mine and everything black is silver (I think, would have to go double check). Yours looks great.

Re: 64-66 glove box emblem

I like it!

I plan on doing something very similar to mine (Black background/silver letters). I think it really adds a lot to the right side of the dash on those trucks with black gauge bezels. It kinds of evens everything out.

Re: 64-66 glove box emblem

i was just asked how i mounted the emblem. i cut the 3 mounting posts off the back of the new emblem.then i sprayed 77 adhesive on the back. while the emblem was drying i taped off the area on the glove box door and sprayed that. let it sit about 2 min then stick on and done.

I'll bite. I asked the question. How do you affix the retainers to the posts?? I can't see where to reach them. Must I remove the door assembly?

Re: 64-66 glove box emblem

IDK really, I thought they poked all the way through, but maybe there is supposed to be something stuck in the holes that hold them on.

my glove box never had the emblem thats why i did not use the mounts. if you wait to let each side dry before you stick it then contact adhesive works very good. its on there for good.

this is the look i was going for on the emblem

Re: 64-66 glove box emblem

The original way of attaching the trim to the glove box door, was with round tubular push nuts. They snap into the holes in the door, and them the mounting studs on the emblem snap into the tubular push nuts.

Re: 64-66 glove box emblem

Captn, that is what I thought/remember. Ive had my glove box emblem for probably 15 years and have never put it on. I may try the stick on but I have the holes just no clippy things.
