1976 Chevy pickup, 11,220 miles on it

Howdy!

I normally hang out over on the '67-'72 Chevy Board but I thought maybe you folks would like to see this truck. It is located about 12 miles south of me in New Sharon, Iowa, parked at the fire station. The wife and I went down there for Pizza and a movie tonight (cheap date) so I took the camera along. There wasn't anyone around, so the pictures tell everything I know about it. I can't make any comments on price or value because I'm not familiar with this style of truck. Enjoy.

I'll have to add the rest of the pics in the next post...

I'm curious if it has a Dodge front axle or something. Where are the front hubs? That sure is a sweet survivor.

Probably a full time 4x4 model that had drive slugs instead of externally locking hubs. They are locked all the time. I'm not sure if they used the same hub caps as the 2wd models, but it would make sense if they did since there are no locking hubs to turn.

It looks like it has been sitting outside all of its life, not sure if it's a 13k truck mileage or not. Still cool and I wouldn't mind having it

Obviously you have never seen a truck that sat out in Iowa all of it's life. It would be a complete rust bucket if it had been outside since 1976...

my 76 3/4 4x4 uses a different style of drive slug than my 78 3/4 4x4 and can use a 2wd style solid hubcap unlike my 78 witch needs a hole in the cover to clear it. Just food for thought.

Ha. I'm willing to bet that as a fire truck it spent the majority of its life sitting outside and it got a lot of washing/maintenance/attention during the day as most firetrucks do.

For real! Cracks me up when alot of these Cali guys see something with cab corners and rockers that are rusty and call it scrap. If its still got floors its worth saving around these parts!!

I bet it didn't look how amny bays the station has behind it. They keep there stuff inside. This is a grass fire truck and I am sure has been muddyand dirty several times in its life. Also if that is a volunteer department, they probably don't have someone polishing it 24/7. If it was in my part of Texas and set outside the humidity would have rotted it to the ground by now.

Beacause they use salt and they have snow and humidity any of that will cause rust thats why its called the rust belt

Bingo!

And as TexasDmax said, the fire departments in this part of the country keep everything inside unless it is out of service as this truck is...

Let's say you didn't drive it in the snow, yet kept it outside. i'm thinking then that rust wouldn't be a problem?

Well, we don't have snow, and our trucks in south east texas will rust just sitting there uncovered with the humidity and rain, Central and West Texas are a different story.

Yes, they would still rust it would just take longer. A lot of the problem with driven vehicles around here is that a lot of the county roads are gravel. The dust gets into everywhere, then when you wash it or drive it in the rain the dust gets soaked with water and takes forever to dry out. Since it takes so long to dry out it creates rust inside the panels.
