Looking for examples of DIY fabricated side steps/running boards

Can anyone show examples of any DIY side steps or running boards they made to fit the '67-72 trucks? Maybe you re-purposed some from an old truck or jeep, or maybe they were made from scrap steel you had laying around.

Re: Looking for examples of DIY fabricated side steps/running boards

Since i guess nobody has photos of fabricated steps, can anyone advise if any standard steps or runningboards made for another truck will bolt up securely to ours? I looked at my jeep, but our frame rail is more inboard than the jeep, so their mounting brackets wont reach it to mount securely. i dont want to go just into the sheet metal rocker box there.

put some from a Dodge crew cab truck on my crewcab, just made up brackets for them. I am sure you can buy some for a regular cab truck and modify the brackets to fit.

yes, something like that is what i was talking about. Did you tie them to the frame rail, or did you go into the rectangular sheetmetal box underneath the seat area between the door sill and the frame? I was afraid it would rip out of there. Do you have any photos of the way you mounted them?

They have a bracket attached to the frame, very strong and I got the runnung boards from a truck supplier for 100 and they were brand new in the box. I can try and get some pictures of the brackets tomorrow.

Do you have them bolted to the frame rails? How about to the bottom of the rocker boxes as well? I couldn't tell from the photos. I want mine to go into the frame rather than the bottoms of the rocker box area alone due to concerns of ripping out when stepped on.

They are bolted to the frame, maybe I can fet better pictures with more light. The rockers were not designed to hold the weight of the running boards and you are right I am sure that they would be destroyed if you tried to bolt them to the rockers.
