Tripp'n into a v8 world

that never seems to far away...sorry sing'n some godsmack song. Anyway, i am in a rut and desperatly need yalls helps. Here is my senario: My stinkin six doesn't want to run right, i have gradually rebuilt the d@m thing again and it turns out that i have a flat cam because it doesn't stay in timing, at idle it revs high then low. Anyway, I dont want to throw any more money into that money pit sooo...I have decided to just buy a rebuilt 350 to temporary fulfill my performance needs.( I am young and of course want power) I have my caddy sitting in the garage but unfortunately I am really pressed for time to get pumpkin back on the road and i dont have the nesessary (sp?)$2000 to rebuild it since I dont have that sort of knowledge yet. MY question is, what is a good price to pay for a used, running rebuilt chevy 350, 4bbl and where is a good place to look besides a machine shop and the classifieds. THanks in advance.

If it is a temp fix, you can slap a 305 V-8 in it...these things are practicly free, and with a 4bbl and headers, it'll feel like a hot rod compaired to teh inline that is having a slow expensive death.

hey if you want an engine, i have a 350 sitting in my burb, problem is that it was fuel injected and the burb cought fire, thus needing a new intake and carb and air cleaner but should run with those things and a new wiring harness, oh and it needs an alternator on it, and possibly a fan, pm me and i will get some pics to you this week but i need to know cause the burb goes to the yard on friday, hell you can even take the 400 transmission that goes to it, this is coming out of an 87 3/4 ton but ran strong before the fire.
oh and i am not sure of a price because i have to talk to my father but i am guessing a min of $250

I wish I would have bought a rebuilt 350 now. I could have bought a rebuilt for $1400 and it comes with a 1 year warranty. Instead I decided to rebuild the one I have and I am sitting at about $1350 and it's not even done yet That what a rebuilt 350 runs up here in Canada

I have a 350 that was recently rebuilt. It has an Edelbrock carb and HEI, runs perfect. Swapping out to an LS1. Only problem is I am in Ohio. I would let it go pretty cheap. I bought the truck with it in so not sure of the milage, but it suposed to be less than 4000 miles on rebuild, which I believe because the clutch is toast and can't be driven.

If you are looking for a temp, you can find a running 350 or 305 v8 for under $500 usually. I would suggest staying away from fuel inected engines since they won't have a mechanical fuel pump boss, fuel pump or usable intake, thus more work and money on your part (unless you find a honey of a deal).

When you buy, get as much from stem to stern as you can. We're talking all accessories, brackets, fan, flexplate(flywheel) motor mounts, distributor, etc. If it's bolted to the engine, get it. It's easier to throw things away than try to find them later (cheaper too).

Ask to hear it run. This is important since you are not looking for a rebuild project

Occasionally, you can find 307 chevy engines on this board for sale (I sold mine last year). They aren't hot rods, but solid as any chevy engine is. Sold mine with brackets and intake (Edelbrock) for about $300 I think. It ran pretty good too.

Just another vision.....i love that godsmack song! Awake is a great CD, defenitly the best out of the 3. I bought Faceless yesterday, and i'm not too impressed with it. They aren't as heavy anymore

Anyway, about $400-$500 is a good deal for a running 350 motor. It will have about 100 more horsepower than your six cylinder, and the gas mileage won't be that different. Plan to loose about 4 mpg. The 305 isn't a bad motor with a Quadrajet 4bbl and headers, at will get your truck around just fine, and they are also practicly free as mentioned above. But a 350 in the same condidtion would have much more power.
