Frame Protection (POR15 Vs...)
Hey
I'm just about to paint my frame and want to have it well protected for quite a few years. :P POR15 seems like a good choice, and better than the other thing I was looking at, a producted called "Corroseal". My thoughts were to use POR15 for the Frame, Engine Compartment, and the inside of the panels, Along with the floor of the cab (both inside and out). Then corroseal on the outside bodywork. POR15 seems like it ends up a bit thicker so would be good/fine for the underside, and offer more protection to those places than corroseal would(I'm afraid that it'll chip easier). Whereas corroseal on the visible areas wouldn't build up the body but still offer protection. Anybody else thought about this, Used either or both products, will they react to each other somehow? Thanks |

Re: Frame Protection (POR15 Vs...)
I had my '72 GTO sand blasted at a shop, and then they did the entire frame with gloss black powder coating. It looks great, it was relatively inexpensive.
I have heard of many complaints from people using POR15 that it ends up cracking over time. Others have also mentioned something called Zero Rust. But I have no experience with it.

Re: Frame Protection (POR15 Vs...)
I personally like POR-15 on frames especially if you plan on lowering your truck. Powdercoating is nice but once it's scratched there is no touching it up with out stripping it and starting over. I just used eastwoods chassis black on my '63 frame, looks nice and sprayed out evenly but haven't put any road time on it yet. I would recommend the POR-15 in a satin finish and spraying it is a must for nice results. Cover everything up as well, the over spray gets everywhere. Good luck.

Re: Frame Protection (POR15 Vs...)
You can see the Eastwood finish on some parts I sprayed in my build thread BTW.

I used a satin "Chassis Saver" sprayed it on, looks good, seems pretty durable.

Re: Frame Protection (POR15 Vs...)
Powder coating sounds like it'd be nice but cost compared do POR15 or anything else would be quite a bit higher?
Whats everybody using on the underside of fenders? Just paint or some protective coating too? |

Re: Frame Protection (POR15 Vs...)
I used POR 15 with a brush on my frame. It seems to be self leveling as I did not see any brush marks. I prayed on their Phosporous adhesive spray first and then painted over it. It's a poor mans powder coat as far as I'm concerned. It has held up well against rock chips too. As far as the inside of the fenders, I used some undercoating from a spray can and that too is holding up. Just my experience.
