Tire Fittment - 275 and 295 width.

I know this is a dead horse, but I researched my eyes out last night and couldn't get a good answer.

I am contemplating running 275/45/20 front and 295/45/20 rear. Will this fit, will it look goofy? I have a 2/4 static ECE drop, relocated shocks, drums and front discs on a 72 frame/axle. Wheel I am considering are the showwheels streeter 20x8.5 and 20x10 both have 5.5" bs

Anyone have good pictures of this setup? I found pieces of it, i.e. this tire combo on front or rear of a truck, but not a truck with this setup.

While we are on the subject the General Grabber UHP is the tire I am looking at. It is a nice aggressive looking tire that gets great reviews except I wouldn't be able to rotate them. Some say it wears too fast and is noisy past 15k. Anyone have input there as well by chance?

Re: Tire Fittment - 275 and 295 width.

I would personally go with a slightly shorter tire.
255/40-20 on a 20x8.5 wheel and a 295/40-20 on a 20x10 wheel.
This is what Nate (72BlckButy) has on his truck.

His is one of the trucks I reference as being a truck that had part of what I was looking at (being the 295 rear).

The Grabbers only come in 245, and I like that profile. I like a bit more rubber than most i suppose. I previously had some 20s on the truck that I sold and they had 245 which was on the verge of too little for my taste.

For the record though, I am not married to the Grabbers, price and tread are just a nice combo at less than $170 even for the 295 width.

Look at Toyo Proxes ST II's.

I went with 295-45-20 thinking that I did not want to smoke my tires when I stomped it but not quite it still shreds this tires when I hit. it. Next set will be 295-40-20. I am only speaking of the rear since I have 18's up front.

Drop? Have any shots from the back?

This is what Nate (72BlckButy) has on his truck.
X2, I'll be running this size.

I would consider this, but cost skyrockets dropping down to this (I assume far less common) size.

I think Nate paid around $800 total,... for his Toyo's.

Well, I am sold on the Proxes like Nate has, seems like a better tire all around and about the same cost. However I see he has a 4/6 ECE drop. I have the 2/4 so I am about 90% sure I'm going to stick with the taller 45 profile. I think/hope it should fill out that gap just a bit and give me a bit better ride.

Thanks guys. If anyone else has different input, or even strong suggestions to stick with the 40s, or more importantly pictures/links post up.

Well, now I have to ask, what BS are your rear wheels, and what width are those front tires? I like yours, but can see where the 40 would look just a smidge better. Not sure how that translates onto my truck with a bit less drop on it.

Re: Tire Fittment - 275 and 295 width.

Be careful doing a 2/4 spring drop.
The normal results are less than desired.

Most of these 40 year old trucks already have 1"-2" drop,... because of sagging stock springs.
The new 2" and 4" drop springs are compared to new "stock height" springs.
Almost all 2/4 drop truck owners want to go lower.
Take measurements before you start.
Then take them again after you have lowered your truck.

The truck in my avatar is 5.5"/7.5" drop.
To me,... it doesn't look that low.

It is already done. I did that years ago. It isn't very low at all, but it is what I wanted. I would like it to be maybe 1/2-3/4" lower. Terrible picture but here it is with the previous wheel/tire combo that I sold.

Re: Tire Fittment - 275 and 295 width.

FYI... IIRC the Toyo Proxes S/T ii's were ordered through a local 4x shop and I picked them up for $720 (give or take a few dollars). IMO for 20's, a matching tread pattern and good tire, I thought it was money well spent. I've spent more for 15"-17" tires in the past.

Keep us posted!

Just ordered two for the front, and two front wheels. 20s should fix my Tie rod clearance issue I am having with the 15" centerlines!

Nate: Any feedback on the level of noise on the highway? I have been looking at reviews of Toyo Proxes STII and that seems to be a big complaint, in addition to poor snow/ice traction. The winter worthiness I don't care so much about, but road noise can be aggravating on long trips...
