door weatherstrip
Just putting my door weathersrtips in and they suck!
The weather strip has no body its just thun and lifeless!! Anyone have a suggestion for the best weatherstrip? I was expecting something with a wire body in it to help hold in place. HELP!!!!! Luc

Precision makes really nice door seals ,we use them and sell them through my dad's auto glass business. They don't have a wire form in them, they're supposed to be held in place with contact cement or weatherstrip adhesive.

I just spent last weekend removing the 45 year old weather stripping from my truck! Man, it was on there good, too. Not sure who made my kit, but I found a shop here local that sells it. I went with a kit from GMC Pauls last time ('69) and it was great.
Don't use too much glue and work in sections. I use masking tape to hold it in place while the glue sets.

I used door gaskets from Classicparts.com. They are very soft and spongy, although it took a while for them to take a set. I had to loosen the door latches a bit for a month or so before I could tighten them back up. I bought them back in 1998 so what they carry now may or may not be the same.
I also tried to install doors seals from Steele Rubber Products when I did the repaint 3 years ago. I wasn't sure the Classicparts seals would come off and go back on okay. But the Steele seals were hard and thin, and could not be formed around the dogleg. I ended up reinstalling the Classicparts seals and they continue to work well. |
