A good day at the salvage yard

-
The guy that works over at the salvage yard called and said that they just got a '72 C/50 in for scrap if I wanted to come over and see if there was anything I wanted off of it... I was pleasantly surprised when I got there. Nice Black door panels, Nice Black visors with no broken stitches, full set of decent seat belts, clean gas tank, heater control with no broken levers, tach dash, throttle cable, and nice wire loom and fuse box with no rust. I also saved the floor pan and seat. Doors are nice but he had to call another guy that wanted him to call if he ever got in a big truck with nice doors. If the guy doesn't show up I will get those too. Basically I gave $150 for the tach dash and the rest of the stuff was free.... A couple of posts for pics.

Those parts all look great to me. You got a great deal in my opinion That fuse box and harness looks real nice as does the tach dash and door panels. Nice Score

Re: A good day at the salvage yard

I'm not one for used 40 year old wire harness.everything else looks nice But the day you finally finish your truck get the paint done and polished there is a fire under the dash and it melts everything.I've seen come cool hot rods and custom trucks burn to the ground cus of old wiring. If your have the classic Car INS is cool But your really want to spend 5-9 years building your dream just to get Cheap at the beginning middle or end the full harness from M&H is like 800.00 and you have a pace of mind knowing they the wire harness is good.the old plastic is not as good as today's Plastic.the older wires harnesses are bridal and so many of them have been cut and peace back together Very unsafe.

It would kill me if my daughter or son was driving on the freeway and the wire harness caught fire they would not know what to do.I'm a safe person I rather spend a little more of safety then let some one else pay for my low budget thinking. But that's me

Re: A good day at the salvage yard

Nice score. I swung into a yard today with a 67 C-50 sitting in the pile, but the only thing i saved without risking my life was a radio delete.

Kind of surprised it didn't have a vacuum gauge. Good job.

No need to be jealous. Just keep your eyes open and scour the salvage yards.

Thanks Randy. It helps when you have a good friend that works at the salvage yard..... He said that they are supposed to be getting in a '69 1 ton in the next week or so, we'll see what that is..
