Tilt column problems

Bought a 78 2 wheel drive blazer 2 weeks ago. It had a 83? up column in it(wipers on turn signal stalk). Bought a tilt column off a member, got it Tuesday and installed it today. Before I installed it but after i took the old one out, I tried to turn the key switch to start position. It will go into accessory, lock and run but won't let me push to the start position.

The tilt mechanism is in great shape but it needs bearings and all the stalk but I now have a truck I can't start from the column.

Any idea's, adjustments etc? I put a new ignition switch in and I can manually push it to start..............

Thanks,
Steve

Re: Tilt column problems

The ignition switch should be adjustable somewhat. Pull the column down, and adjust it until the rod will engage all of the detents. The rod might be bent as well.

Re: Tilt column problems

I agree with Jonboy, sounds like the ignition switch needs to be adjusted and double check that rod.

Re: Tilt column problems

I was trying to beat IRENE! So I didn't play too much, got the column mounted so i can steer the truck, PO used a push button start switch. I will go out in a couple of days and play again. Should have put it in the shop but didn't think.

Thanks,
Steve
