I was looking under my hood and thought "I don't want the battery there" also a bit of weight transfer. Where can I relocate it to ? I needed a new battery tray so the price is about the same for a battery box I assume.... any ideas would be great. Also I plan on smoothing out the bump there for the original battery tray to bolt to.

I have a 98 ford van with 2 batteries.The second battery is mounted to the frame like lost wages.But it is enclosed.You might want to check with the local yards.They used this box from83 on.

Summit has a battery relocation kit listed in their catalog for about $45.00. It has everything needed, box, cables, grommets, bolts....everything. I put mine in the bed on the passenger side.

I have the Summit relocation kit, & have fabbed brackets to mount on the outside of the frame rails on the pass side(under the bed is a good place for it, & contained in a plastic box....crazyL

one thing..if you plan to take your truck to the track..NHRA rules state, that if your battery box is not in the engine compartment, there must be a Kill switch located in the rear of the vehicle..it must be marked ON/OFF and have a turn type switch to control it..check your local rules...Jim

I made one that mounts in the exact same place as the one in the picture,cept mine is a box. I welded it up out of some angle and flat stock and put sheet metal panels on the inside. Even had some louvers punched in the sheet metal. I ran battery cable up to the front where the battery was and used the Moroso remote terminals mounted in the rad support.

I've often wondered if putting the battery behind the seat on the pass. side is do-able, don't know if there would be room, though. You do have your fuel tank relocated, right? Two other things with that would be how to route the cables and allowing for drainage from the battery tray (acid) or maybe putting the battery in a box. Just my .02.

lpaine: I have seen guys use TWO of the 6 volt dry cell type batteris (Optima) in the street rod circles. These batteries are smaller in size and when wired together properly you still have your 12 volts. Just an idea ... and they are small enough to fit behind your seat without the worry of spilled acid.

Dont think I would want a regular battery in the cab with me. Venting the fumes would be impossible and I have seen what happens to a hood when one of those things blows up. Now I have a gel cell or spiral core from Napa and you could use a Optima and I was thinkinking about mounting it inside all the way in the back right behind my pass side inner fender on my Blazer. Just dont know if there are many fumes from this type of bat. Just my thoughts.

I don't have any way to post pics my scanner is not working I have to reload the program oh and the Cd drive is busted too so I can't reload it.
I think I am going to buy a battery box and mount it where Lost Wages has his mounted.

John my truck is really coming along at a good rate now. I hope to have the body in paint by the middle of May. Time permitting.

Since you're in the land of the Slurpees... does the battery box stay clean? Or does the snow and yuck get in there? I've contemplated moving my battery back there but was concerned about picking up a rock in the side of the battery case or, if boxed in, about road foo making it nasty.

XXL the battery box I have is sealed with a gasket around the lid and grommets around cables.It is on a 4x4 that gets used in the mud.It doesn't get dirty.

Lost Wages, your right about Slammed67's ideas. When you look under his hood you don't see anything except steering, master cylinder, and a fat black engine. Very clean.

Is this a bought item or did you fab it? Have you got any pics you can share? Is it a nightmare to get under there and service the battery? or does the lid come off easily?

My dad did not think it would be a good Idea to put the battery under the box for the reason it would be hard to service and the amount of dirt on our roads. but he said "it's your truck " I was like Dam Straight ! I am not worried if the battery is in a sealed box. I never explained that to him.

The one I have came stock as an auxiliary battery on my ford van.To service there are 2 nuts and bolts you remove.Below the bolts are a stud on each side.Back off the nuts and lift the box off the studs.Pop the lid off to get to the battery.

Well, you got me all excited about moving my battery and so I started sketching and measuring the battery, and ogling the pic Lost Wages posted of his battery box, and then realized... hey, I don't have room back there for a battery. So... what location did any of you stepside people find for relocating the battery to the back? I have Blazer tank below the rear of the bed and a pair of air tanks and compressors below the front of the bed (between the swingarms). I might be able to squeeze a thinner Optima-type battery between the frame rail and the bedside, but then I'd have no use for this 8 month old triple-whammy battery I bought from WallyWorld.
