ID a Dana 60 from a Dana 44 in a junkyard

I know the locking hubs are much bigger but the axle tubes and diff covers look the same. I don't want too buy a front axle too find out its a 44.

Re: ID a Dana 60 from a Dana 44 in a junkyard

I just checked one of my LMC catalogs and it says that the model number is cast into one of the webs or on the nose of it.

Re: ID a Dana 60 from a Dana 44 in a junkyard

thats a sweet deal, there are 2 different hubs to watch out for, 1 is a dually hub( 2 flanges) and the other is a single rear wheel hub (1 flange). The SRW hubs are worth more than the DRW hubs.

It also should have 60 or 44 cast into the web by the cover on the front. This can be seen in the above pics by Mr Pops. If it is out of the truck, you want to make sure it is a GM, as these were used by the Big 3, and the mountings are different.

The chevy and the dodge Dana 60's spring perches are different. But they are so close you can make it fit with out modification by pushing on the leaf spring.

Ford 60 is a driver side diff.It will still bolt up but you will need a driver drop T-case.
