Satin or gloss for the body paint ?

I am getting close on my pro street build and am at that point i need to decide whether to paint in gloss or paint it in satin. I can't decide so i thought I would see what everyone thought. I was originally thinking a gloss deep green with a pearl white with a hint of green in it. Then it was a satin in the original cab color and now i don't have a clue what i want to do . Maybe post some pictures if you have them......maybe i should have looked for the phot shop wizards....anyhow I would like to know what people are thinking these days.

Original gloss green with a little pearl in it would look good. Are you keeping the trim?

Thats a good call....
I have bought new custom trim from everyone and found that i hate almost all of the clips they make and haven't found anything yet thats perfect. It always rattles around and moves slightly. So i was actually waiting to decide but i am going to loose the trim and cab sails and have it all airbrushed on instead.

Re: Satin or gloss for the body paint ?

i would not quite say satin has run its course, but I'd have to agree - gloss if doing original colors. Especially if it is a daily driver that looks somewhat original. But yours is FAR from original, so another option would be satin body color and gloss white for the roof and trim. But you can't go wrong, truck looks great.

One big consideration.... how good is your bodywork?
If it's good; gloss, if it's just so-so; satin.

On my motorcycle,I like gloss, but on my cars(trucks now)I still like a satin/suade finish, with stainless & chrome trim/moldings & nice clean wheels.

Since the body is so clean, paint it back to the original color it would look sweet and be stealthy.

Yea.... It's extremely expensive too!
I want flames on mine. I like the old style candy flames with white tips.
I can't wait to see yours painted. Wish I could get mine lower on the ground!

Re: Satin or gloss for the body paint ?

I'm with broey, you have a nicely built truck with lots of work put into it, do the same for the paint and gloss it out. It's not a "rat rod" so gve it a nice paint job.

Re: Satin or gloss for the body paint ?

I like the satin finish on my truck because it was dirt cheap, easy to apply, and looks fine for months at a time with virtually no maintenance. Every beautiful paint job I’ve seen has been gloss. Satin or flat paint looks functional (IMHO). Personally I’ve never understood the concept behind an expensive flattened paint job. The cost and labor are nearly equal to a high gloss beautiful finish. If I were going to that much labor and investment I’d want it to be spectacular, not just functional looking.

Re: Satin or gloss for the body paint ?

I say gloss. I had a painter buddy of mine paint my dodge "satin" black by mixing a flattening agent in. To be honest I was really disappointed with they way it came out looking. It just looks like a poorly done cheap paint job. Not to say that I haven't seen nice ones, but if you are going to put that much work into it gloss is 10 times better. I agree flat paint seems overdone these days.

You could always do both. I hadn't seen it done before.
I did my gloss bc/cc and my satin bc/cc

Gloss is too gloss for me. Satin looks cheap. So I went for semigloss red and glossy white.

I say if she's straight then go with the gloss. Satin is for the living room walls j/k but I do think she'll look better under the friday night lights at the strip with a high gloss shiny paint job.

If you paint it gloss the women will like it because they can see themselves in it to fix their hair..
