Good job on those seats!
Well I was helping my Dad pick out a car since his truck got totaled. I got carried away and ended up buying a computer for the 6.0 and a dash badge for my 78 project. Also found him a pretty good Yukon he is picking up tomorrow |

Nice seat!!!
Me I sold the extra stepper bed I had to a guy in Indiana. I started getting rid of the rest of the rust on the bedsides. Pulled out the rear seats on the GTO to find the issue with the speakers rattling. |

Re: What did you get done 8/28/11 edition
We spent most of the week getting the young-one moved for her 1st year of college. We got her moved into her Texas Tech dorm room & set-up on Sun-Monday & spent some time just hanging out. I now have several TT swag items: t-shirt, koozie, & a new thermometer for my 'shop' .
My GF remained in Lubbock for the entire week but I had to get back for work related stuff which means more truck time (no sitting down to eat 'cause you can eat a sandwich standing up w/semi-dirty hands). I worked on the dually & finally got the front back on the ground. Rotors installed, calipers mounted, & new rubber brake lines too. I bolted up the wheels & yanked the jackstands. I'm sure some neighbors are a little happier. It should sit very well once there's some weight on the suspension. I picked up a few parts & got the oil pump pick-up tacked @ the correct height. Now I can move forward w/tin assembly & get some color on it. It's still hot outside but I bought a ez-up canopy which made it much better....

Re: What did you get done 8/28/11 edition
Was an interesting week here, earthquake on Tuesday and the Hurricane Saturday. We were very fortunate with this storm, lost power for 30 seconds and the tree limbs that fell missed my cars garage and house. The earthquake was Virginia's worst in the last 100 years.
Truck related, nothing other than eBay shopping.

Re: What did you get done 8/28/11 edition
Installed new bottom of the line $99 Alpine receiver in my 83 beater. I sold the Alpine cd changer I had on Ebay for about $100, but the old Alpine receiver was not working correctly so I could not sell it, so the deal was about a wash + wire crimps and fuses, etc. New receiver is not as powerful and does not have the sound of the old one, but the price was right and I have MP3 jack and usb port if I learn how to use those new thingys you youngins use. I did get a great new wire stripper from Crutchfield when I bought the receiver which I highly recommend - way better than the old crimp style. Found $20 off promo code over $100, so the stripper was about $5 net.

Re: What did you get done 8/28/11 edition
Washed my '79, and put some speakers and a new radiator cap in my little sister's '86 GMC. Nothin real exciting. Saving my nickels and dimes for a complete engine rebuild and new exhaust!!

Re: What did you get done 8/28/11 edition
Just google "Crutchfield $20 off promo code" and you will get a lot of websites.
RetailMeNot is a good site - just check the comments to see if the code has worked recently. It now shows 3A325 as a recent successful code - scroll to the bottom of RetailMeNot page. I don't recall the code I used, but it was one like this if not this one exactly. Anybody buying online should always google "promo code" or "discount" and the name of the online vendor to check for discounts. Rock Auto usually has 5% discount, OReilly Auto Parts, Autozne, and most other parts stores have promo codes at least some of the time. Don't give up if the code you find is expired - they always expire - just continue searching for a more recent code. Also, I always check Amazon and Ebay, mostly Amazon because you often get free shipping. For OEM GM or Delco I also use the following: autopartstomorrow.com rockauto.com oewarehouse.com oehq.com gmpartsdirect.com I try to stick with GM OEM replacement parts whenever possible. Prices are still often more than aftermarket, but I have had very poor results with aftermarket parts. So far, all of the GM OEM vendors have been good. Ebay has burnt me a time or two, but that can be expected from an unregulated website. Usually the sellers with the biggest listings are the worst. I think spending a few minutes of search time is worth $20 or more, and I like to reward low cost suppliers with my business - just on principle. |

Re: What did you get done 8/28/11 edition
Been needing to reinstall my back-up lights since replacing the old bezel with the new one earlier this summer. With an Illinois safety lane inspection coming due in September it was time to get it done.
Debated cutting the bezel or the dash...decided on the hole in the bezel: Once again those mini-fog lights I chose for back-up lights some time ago are functioning once again! Reminder to self to label wires the next time I take something electrical apart and wait more than a month to put it back together...and not use the same color wire for the hot lead for any electrical accessory that matches the electric fuel pump. Test light is a mandatory tool for these older trucks. A nice week-end as work turns towards the house lately in preparation for another mid-west winter guaranteed to arrive sooner than we want to think. Looking forward to a 3 day week-end coming soon! Mark
