Compatible Rear ends?
Well my rear end decided to off itself this weekend. The teeth have all broken off. I was wondering though what rear ends I could fit back there between the wheel wells. I currently have a 4.11. But I was looking to go with a 3.73.
Any input would be greatly appriciated. thanks guys. |

Re: Compatible Rear ends?
A straight bolt in would be another coil spring 6 lug rear. But if you don't mind a little work and you are running 6 lug front, you could easily swap for a 70+ 4x rear if I'm not mistaken. Just need to weld on some spring perches. You can use your old axle to know where to place them on the new one.

I put a '68 3.73 posi in mine.
Bolt in swap of the right width but still 6 lug.

Is your truck a C10 or a C20?

Re: Compatible Rear ends?
Well that depoends on what you have now. Is your truck a C20 now? If so and if it has the Eaton HO52, you have either 4.11 or 4.57 gears. The 4.57's seem to be most common in my area. The Dana 60's in the '67-'72 trucks have gears from 3.54 to 4.11's. I have a Dana 60 from a '71 C20 that has 3.54 gears. I wouldn't rule it out until you can confirm the gear ratio.
In the CL ad it says he is parting out a '68 C10, but yet he lists a 3/4 ton Dana 60. Hard to tell just what he has. It could be a 6 lug Dana 60, which is very rare. Quote:

Re: Compatible Rear ends?
Well then there is no reason to look at 3/4 ton rear ends. What you have now is a 12 bolt, unless you have a GMC. Most all C10's from '63-'82 came with the 12 bolt. The rear ends from '63-'70 were of the 6x5.5" wheel bolt pattern. The '71-'82's had the 5x5" wheel bolt pattern, and were also 1.5" wider. Do you want to stay with the 6x5.5" wheel bolt pattern or are you wanting to convert to the 5x5" along with front discs? The 3.73 gears are failrly common. There were also 3.42's and 3.08's available in the factory 12 bolts.
