Hub Removal Issues
I'm removing the hub on an 82 K5 Blazer and can't seem to find complete directions. I've searched on here, google, and a few other sources. AllData doesn't give me everything I need to know. I've already removed the cover (It's manual locking hub) the Gear behind it, the Spring, then the two snap rings. There's a piece on the axle shaft I can't remove, and the inner locking mechanism I can't remove, for clarification I can post a pic in the morning. But I wanted to see if anyone had any clear directions on removing it.

Re: Hub Removal Issues
Can I get ANY help at all? I've looked at tons of write-ups where they say that the locking hub unit should just pull out, but it's not doing so for me. Maybe the unit is rusted in there? It is pretty dry, but I can't be sure. Pics below.

Re: Hub Removal Issues
It is supposed to pull out. Is that the snap ring in the groove on the splines? Hard to tell with the funk there.

Re: Hub Removal Issues
There's no snap ring on the splines. I see a washer behind the nut on the axle but thats it. It's like the hub is seized in there. It wont move at all.

Re: Hub Removal Issues
This is the one we've been mentioning, did you remove it?

Re: Hub Removal Issues
I removed the snap ring on the outer edge that you all are asking about, but still not coming out. As far as I can tell it's rusted in there. I've sprayed with WD-40, Vinegar, and Now I'm going to try PB Blaster and see if that helps. But I'm not expecting it to. So.... what next??

Re: Hub Removal Issues
Looks like your next option is to heat up the outer hub a bit....carefully...also take a small wire brush and clean up all the rust....just to make sure the snap ring is not there....spray it again...next option is to get a slide hammer...fab up a plate steel to fasten to the allen head cap screws or a puller...with a hole in the bolt center ....it will come ..... take your time!!

Re: Hub Removal Issues
My Chevy had two of those outer "snap" rings.... possible there is a second on yours as well. Judging from your picture, looks like there may be another still in there... the gap at about the 11 o'clock position?
