hood

Hi, my dad and i are building a 68 c10 from ground up everything is going well except for the hood. the lines are lines up nice its just the rear of the hood. eveytime we open then close the hood the rear of the hood has to be pushed down to line back up with the fenders. these are brand new hinges but are old springs could this be what is kkepin it from going all the way down in the rear? thanks in advance.

Mine does that too! My hinges/springs are original. Haven't really cared to look to see why, so it'd be interesting to see if you find the cause.

I loosened the hinge bolts and pushed the hood up as far as it would go. While holding it there, I retightened the bolts. Seemed to cure most of the issue.

Not my idea, I read it somewhere originally.

X 3 Mine drove my crazy always having to push the hood down everytime. Had a nieghbour body guy fix it for me. Now I have to take the hidge off to get the heater core out and I am nervous I'll mess it up again.lol

This part seems counter-intuitive to me. I was thinking about moving the hinges, but pushing it all DOWN since the problem is that the hood is too HIGH in the rear.

I must be wrong though, cuz 3 or 4 of yuz have done just like dmack91. Can someone explain how this is so??

By loosening the rear bolts on the hinges you are pushing the back of the hood down when you raise the front and push past the "stopping point"

okay it worked perfect. thanks for the help i see i wasnt the only one who was having this problem.

1 raise hood and loosen the three hinge bolts to the fender.

2 push the hood up in the center as high as possible toward the celing.

3 while holding upward pressure have someone tighten the bolts.

Drill two small holes(one at each end of the hinge)all the way thru the hinge and mounting area.Makle them just big enough for the bit or a small nail to go thru.Remove the hinge and do what you need to,then when you put it back just use the pins to align it.Then tighten it down right back where it was.

Or, you could just closly trace the outline of it before you remove it.

Or, loosen up/drop the back part of the inner fender well....I went this route because it was easier to do solo.
