I went up to the mountains and brought back a truck that was free in more ways than one. The truck was mostly stripped out, but the price was great and its going to make a great donor for a pickup bed trailer. The other free is that its a rust free cab. As in good floors, rockers, cab corners, etc. Sadly, this truck was punished hard at the rear of the cab and the roof. Also, the radio had been cut and passenger firewall has a hole carved in it. The underside looked like it came off the showroom floor yesterday. Another victim for the scrap yard.

Wow! I would just cut that gas filler area out of another truck and weld it in. That area never seem to be shot on trucks I have looked at. Then you will have a perfect cab.

The only holes I see in the passenger firewall are the round one for the heater motor and the heater box holes.

Hey Ray, if you plan on scrapping that, how much would you need for the floor assembly?

I have only brought in about a half dozen rust free cabs out of 50-60 trucks. Most of them need rockers and kick panels, some need cab corners and windshield work, and very few need floors/firewalls.

rust doesnt kick in as fast as the east area. also depends on what part of cali. coastal areas will have that sea salt.

That area on the back corner of the cab is no easy fix. I had the same problem on the passenger side of a rust free east coast cab and it wasn't feasible to fix. You could buy another cab for what a body man would want. Trust me,I tried. Yes,it could be fixed,but I don't have the skills.

You're right. I see them all the time here at the pick n pulls.....they sit for a couple weeks, then go to the crusher

I had a truck from San Diego with rusted header panel,rain lip,and rockers,as well as surface,tailgate bottom,and front bed panel upper. So,by the coast no matter which part of the state can produce a rusty California cab/truck.

when I went to PR a couple years ago, they were telling me that you MUST wash your car at least once a week (coastal), and if you didn't, the cars would rot away. But if you kept it clean, it lasted fine.

What do they ask for them? How long would it take a guy to line up 3 or 4?

Cabs are $350 at the pick n pulls, no doors. It would depend on how many they have at the time, things come and go daily.
