Switching to Rallys - need help

My 72 has 15x6 Weld wheels on the front and 15x10 on the rear wearing 225/75 and 315/75 tires. I want to put on some Rallys. My trouble is the truck has been set up to be level or close to it with the above tires. I have some Rallys with 255/70s on them, but the front end sits about 1 1/2" higher in the front with the 255s on it.
What size tire can I run in the front to get it back level or some rake? thought about 235 or 245/ 60 and stay with a 255 in the rear.
Or do I need to lower the front of the truck more to accomodate a 255 (maybe a 60 series) in the front?
Attached is a picture of the truck with the little fronts and big rears...

Re: Switching to Rallys - need help

You would likley be better off running some coil spring spacers in the rear
I do not think you will fins a short enough tire that will still fit on ralley wheels to make up 1.5"

Re: Switching to Rallys - need help

Nice truc k!! How was it lowered? this may make a difference in what works best/spends less.Keep in mind that Rallies are 8" so the current rear tires will be too wide for the rim.You can get aftermarket rallies that wide IIRC but they be spendy.

This may help

Re: Switching to Rallys - need help

Don't really know how it was lowered.. it was done in 93 when the truck was built..
i want away from the 315/75s on the rear..
i think i may need to put the rallys i have with the 255/70s on the rear and let the front down with a jack until I get the rake i like, measure to the top of the wheel well opening and figure out what front tire will work the best.... but keep the ideas rolling

Re: Switching to Rallys - need help

I really wish BFG would bring those rear tires back. There's really a void in the market if you want a bigger tire like yours that's affordable and not a race type tire.
Anyway, I think a mean looking setup would be a 15x6 w/215's on the front and 15x10 w/285/70 on the rear.

Re: Switching to Rallys - need help

i would put 275/60's on the rear. should be almost an inch taller than 255's. but if still not enough you could either lower front or raise rear an inch or so. i like the look you have now (what i wanted) but the wheels i bought have wrong backspacing so i had 2 stay short with 295/50 on 10 inch tt2's in rear and 235/60 on 7 inchers on front, would love to see yours on mine.

Re: Switching to Rallys - need help

I put the Rallys with the 255/70s on her today... Tires are dirty and wheels are to be painted. Is the stance OK or does it need more rake??????

Re: Switching to Rallys - need help

Why were you getting away from the 'current' sizes?

It looked nice (& I don't care for Welds). I would have just swapped to some ralleys in the same sizes & rolled as is or gone a little shorter tire in the rear (275-60's/285-70's).

Re: Switching to Rallys - need help

I am running a 255/70/15 rear 235/70/15 front combo on my burb with a 5" drop in the rear and a 4" drop in the front. I think one of the issues you might find by going to a shorter tire on the front is that the gap between the top of front fender and tire will be more on the front than the rear. The closer to the same you keep these gaps the better is looks.

IMO the back looks perfect. I suggest lowering the front and going to a 235/70.

Re: Switching to Rallys - need help

I didn't like the big spread in tire sizes from front to rear and really thought the truck might sell better without the pro street look. the 315/75 is a large tire....

Re: Switching to Rallys - need help

Your truck looks great with the 255/70's on it now. However if you went to a 275/60R15 on the back it would be 27.98 inches high and would fit great on on a 8 inch Rally. The 225/75 you have on the front now are 28.28 inches high which is close to the 27.98 height of the 275/60 so you could have the level look you want but you would need to find a 15 x 7 inch rally for the 225 tire. I also think this would be the cheapest way for your accomplish what you want to do.

Re: Switching to Rallys - need help

The truck looks great with the rallys, I agree that 275/60's would look good back there

I should also mention that its lowered 5.5" in Front and 6" in the rear.
Front was done with 2 1/2" Drop Spindles and 3" CPP Springs/Shocks.
The Rear was done with 4" CPP Springs, Shocks and a 2" Lowering Block.
Shock Relocators were also used.

Hope that helps!
