Thanks

Re: new windshields

I got mine several years ago from Safelite Auto Glass, my dad too about 5 years ago.

I just looked and in my area with a new weatherstrip, under $300.

Re: new windshields

I had a new one installed in my '65 by AllStar Glass (through Mercury Insurance).... on the very day that I told them to pound sand and switched to AAA!

Their normal quoted price was about $200 installed as I recall. Mine included a new gasket for just my deductible.

Re: new windshields

I just tried the Safelite web site and 278 with new rubber. Not bad. Thanks for the info.

DO NOT USE SAFELITE!!!

Their monkeys came out 3 times to try to install a windshield in my truck and had no idea what they were doing and ended up mucking up my window flange. I've been dealing with them since for compensation. Open up your yellow pages and call a small local shop. I paid $225 installed.

Re: new windshields

I just had one installed by a local shop for $183.06, I already had the seal. They even put the locking strip in my back window for no extra charge.

Re: new windshields

I just need the windshield. I have the seal and can install it myself if needed. Sources of who may sell them is what I needed. I will call a couple of local shops and see what the have to say. I do prefer to use the smaller shops. The guy I used to use retired and closed shop so it looks like time to find a new glass guy.
Thanks
Jimmy

good idea. we sell glass and can have glass custom mfg for any vehicle made. you have several good glass shops in your area. Shipping glass runs around $80.00 to go cross country so buying local is the way to go. Front windows are around 160.00

alot of it depends on the installer. its hard to find old school glass installers they are a dying breed All shops have that problem. Safelite is a good company they should take care of you

Re: new windshields

I learned to do body work in the mid 70's and at that time we did our own glass. So it's been a while but I can do it if needed. Just had rods and screws put in my back so I need to find another old dude to help out.
thanks
Jimmy

Re: new windshields

I called several shops and found one that had a 1960 in stock from a previous order that was never picked up. Got a real deal on a cash and carry. Now I am ready to install it and called a shop and asked if they had an experienced installer then my friend asked him specific questions that convinced him the guy will know what he is doing.
