Steering Column Question...

I am asking this for future reference and knowledge...

If I wanted to take a Automatic Tilt Column and rebuild it to get rid of the column shift (making the truck a 5/6 speed Manual floor shift)...., but maintain the tilt...

How much work would be involved and is it even possible?
Did they make a floor shift column that is tilt?

Just curious, please let me know...

Re: Steering Column Question...

BTW, I dont want the little nipple that would be left if I just took the shift handle off of it... Thats why I want to tear it down and replace that part if the column, if at all possible...

Re: Steering Column Question...

The floor shift tilt columns come up on the board occasionally. The column shift columns can be converted and if you have the ability to disassemble and reassemble the column then the work to convert one is not to bad.

I have the ability to do it...and thanks to you I know it is possible. Awesome. Now to find a good floor shift column to rob for parts...

Re: Steering Column Question...

the factory 4 speed tilts are very expensive, but they do pop up from time to time.
You can knock the nub off and fill in the hole... epoxy, jb weld, what ever. Then do a tick of bodywork on top and paint it.
